The hotel is very good and clean. Very friendly staff. Perfect location with its own beach. Some things might be in a better condition for a 5 star hotel resort:

1. Mini bar should have at least two bottles of mineral water
2. Breakfast could be more reach in terms of variety of food
3. Bathroom to have some shampoo, losion, and not only two pcs of soap.

Once you arrive in Crete nature assaults you with an explosion of vibrant colours and sensations, and these are perfectly kept in the Amalthia Beach Resort hotel.

This hotel is a piece of paradise just at the seaside, which exquisitely mixes modern lines with traditional Cretan style of little white houses in which the rooms are found.
Everything is always clean, and rooms are spacious and very comfortable, equipped with TV, hairdryer, air conditioner, and even a small fridge in which you can keep water or anything you want.
The hotel also has a confortable reception with TV room and a breakfast buffet area, with tables inside and in an outside terrace, wich makes it perfect for a good breakfast enjoying the fabulous weather in Crete. It has a swimming pool with free to use deck chairs, and a pool bar - restaurant which is just beside the beach! (actually they even serve you in the deck chairs they have in the beach). We strongly reccomend to book half board because it includes dinners in this restaurant, which apart from its perfect location, serves a very good 3-course dinner + dessert changing every night, where you can choose from 2 options for each of the 3 dishes. Delicious!
One of the best things of the hotel is the kindness of the service. From the always smiling cleaning ladies, to the waiters at the restaurant which were so much fun, and not forgetting the reception people, which were very helpful and gave us all the advice we needed and very good recommendations about what to visit.
Do not miss the Greek dance night!!! Once a week they perform a show in which they play live music and dance traditional Cretan and Greek dances like Sirtaki, and everyone is invited to dance with them! So much fun!
For us, Amalthia was just we were looking for, the perfect place to stay in Crete!

We stayed at Amalthia Beach Resort for 10 days in july 12. The room was large for 2 adults and one 12 year old child. It was good space around the pool and never any problem to get sunbeds. The pool was just a few meters from the beach. The hotel had a good and tasty breakfast with fresh orange juice. The restaurant by the sea was wonderful with very good food and very nice people working there. The hotel staff is very serviceminded. We would like to come back.

Room Tip: You should choose a room with seaview!

Good location, nice beach area, very clean and recently updated (or at least looks that way).
Generally decent service, but a few drawbacks:
(1) Breakfast is a bit of a zoo with everyone there in an area too small for all the guests, and regularly run out of the best food. Quality overall good, except perhaps the meat as mentioned
(2) Dubious recommendation at front desk for car rental: managed to get a 25% lower price by walking outside and asking a few places, an investment of 5 minutes.
(3) Did not have shampoo. Not a big deal, but an irritant
(4) A/C shut off at end and could not restart .. were leaving anyway, but still, not 100% reliable
