No visit to Athens would be complete without visiting the centrally located panathenaic stadium, we went at sun down which was unfortunate as it closed Sharp at 5pm so you should visit early in the day to make the most of your visit. It is constructed from marble

You can walk the track or climb up into the seating area, the sheer size of this iconic historic building is amazing
It has hosted the Olympics due to the capacity of 60,000 people

The marathon course finishes in this stadium and as I was visiting Athens for the marathon - I experienced first hand what it was like to run into that stadium, this has to be one of the best Marathon finishes in the world
Cheap place to visit

Classic ancient Olympic Stadium in downtown Athens which is well preserved and looks very authentic. Done in classic marble with plenty of Grecian columns it looks perfect. Well worth a visit although one can not walk in the stadium as it is roped off.

Visited the day before the November Greek marathon so was unable to race round the track.
Another fantastic piece of culture and the museum is a must see.
Only €5 entry in November. Fantastic

Visiting this stadium is like been part of the origin of the modern olympics games.
A must visit monument in the center of Athens.

It’s not the size that will amaze you,as there are bigger stadiums in the world, but it’s unique because it’s all made of marble!!! It sparkles under the wonderful sun of Attica!!! It’s also the finishing point for the authentic classical marathon that takes place every first week of November each year!!!

It's a unique stadium because is made of white marble before almost 100 years! It is situated in the center of Athens near Zappeion gardens so you can combine the visit of stadium with a nice stroll in the gardens just opposite of the stadium.

This is huge, and to walk around there, and see this huge stadium, made of stone, this is fantastic.

One can really appreciate the size of this stadium by being here. The free audio guide explains the history and the layout of the place. The all marble seating area makes this place not only grand, but also beautiful. It is surely a one of a kind.
