This hotel is very conveniently located - close walking distance to the Acropolis, just across the street from The Temple of Zeus, convenient to many good restaurants and the shops of Plaka, which are really just tourist shops. However, the hotel itself is very average. The rooms (ours was a junior suite on the fifth floor) are very small and the bathrooms are tiny. When you shower the water floods the whole bathroom floor and it is clear that this happens to everyone because the door jam near the shower is rotting away from water damage. The room has no shelves and no dresser so there is absolutely no place to unpack your clothing. The room has one tiny chair and no where else to sit except on the bed. Our room faced the temple of Zeus so the view was nice but there is a lot of street noise, which may bother some people. Free wi-fi (slow) is available in the lobby. The staff is not particularly attentive. We made reservations for the rooftop restaurant with the front desk and they failed to let the restaurant know making for a very awkward few minutes in the restaurant. The restaurant has a lovely view but the food is rather average for both breakfast and dinner. Note also that there are two closet-type elevators to serve all 8 or so floors. They are very small and always require a wait if the hotel is very full. The price we paid seemed high to us judging by the many other European hotels where we have stayed. What you think of this hotel will depend on your expectations but I would say that the only reason to stay in this hotel is location.

Room Tip: If street noise bothers you, ask for a room that does not face the street.

The Athens Gate is modern, spacious rooms and located right next to Plaka district and major archaeological sites. It has a wonderful rooftop restaurant for breakfast, dinner or drinks with a view to the Acropolis - stunning. The service was very efficient, courteous and rooms were well appointed and modern. Reasonable prices make it an excellent choice

We stayed here for 2 nights, rooms are very noisy, very hard to sleep at all. Had a superior room with a balcony, but the door did not work and could not use. Charged for minibar that I did not use, 3 euro charge every time you use room service. No coffee or facility in rooms. Food stops at 22:30. Breakfast was average at best. Charged to have wifi in the room. The hotel is at a great location, but does not make up for the poor service and quality of the hotel.

We stayed here for two nights in Sept 14. Nice quiet room (308), very comfortable. Breakfast was included and the view from the rooftop restaurant is stunning. Wi Fi not being included (apart from the Lobby and Restaurant) is disappointing but everything else was excellent.

We stayed at Athens Gate for 2 nights. The hotel is on a busy street (request a quiet room) but it's very well located, 5 minutes walk to the Acropolis and in a walking distance to Plaka (where all the restaurants are). The hotel is refurbished, modern and clean and the view from the room restaurant is beautiful. There is free wifi in the lobby and in the restaurant but it's incredibly slow. You can get wifi in your room for an extra charge but we haven't tried it.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room
