The Grande Bretagne is a lovely hotel with old world elegance. The rooms are a nice size, though not overly large. The bathrooms are modern, however the bathtub has a half glass, so the water gets on the floor. Ask for a room with a full bath and a view of the Acropolis. The six floor rooms have a balcony and a nice view. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We had butler service included. There is a wonderful rooftop restaurant that has a delicious buffet breakfast and overlooks the Acropolis. There outdoor pool is salt water and there are very comfortable chairs with great drinks at the rooftop bar. The carpets are worn out in several areas but overall the hotel is wonderful. The location is great and is walking distance to most sights and the subway is across the street. They will gladly help you plan your sightseeing and really understand what customer service is all about. The spa is exquisite and they even have a hot water foot massage and various steam showers to relax in. The pool indoor pool is refreshing with lovely music playing in the background. They serve delicious iced tea and fruit as well.

Room Tip: Ask for a free upgrade, a room with a view of the Acropolis, a balcony and a full shower.

I brought my girlfriend to Greece last year to introduce her to my family and to show her the country I call home every summer. Before jetting off to the islands, I thought it best I show her Athens and how luxurious it can be. We were upgraded to one of the executive grande suites known as the Hermes suite, as it was the favorite suite of designer Jean Paul Gaultier when visiting Athens. Besides having the largest terrace of the entire hotel, the Hermes suite came with daily fresh fruits and chocolates, newspapers, Hermes toiletries, and the most gracious and elegant butler and maid service.

The hotel staff at the Hotel Grande Bretagne are very professional and hospitable. The staff goes out of there way to make sure you are having a pleasant stay and even predict the needs of the guests before you even ask. The hotel staff are warm and friendly, and unlike many similar hotels in the States or in Europe, the hotel lacks an heir of stuffiness. The location of the hotel is ideal as you are in the heart of Athens and within walking distance of many major attractions.

The hotels salt water pool is on the roof and over looks Mt Lycabettus and the bar next to the pool is a great place to eat lunch and mingle. For those who are unable to stay at the Hotel Grande Bretagne, I would at least recommend eating at the GB roof garden for dinner or at least lunch so that you can experience the some of the best views of Athens.

The Hotel Grande Bretagne is a premier luxury hotel whose facilities and restaurants are only surpassed by the excellent staff who serve it.

Room Tip: Upgrade to one of the view Acropolis view rooms on the Butler Service Floors and enjoy breathtaking views of The Parthenon, The Olympic Stadium, Parliament, and the changing of the Guards every morning...

We stayed at the start of a week in Greece and what a start. Amazing service, classy roof top pool and bar. Room was small but well equipped with a great view overlooking the parliament building. Location is not the best for the sites but certainly not bad. If you are looking for true 5 star class then this is the place to stay. Stayed on an SPG points and cash deal which made the rate ok. Otherwise probably not really worth the money as there are other great hotels in Athens, some with awesome views of the Acropolis.

Everything went well and pleasantly serviced by all . The highlight was breakfast on the roof restaurant looking at the Acropolis with the moon beside it .

This is supposedly the grande dame of Athens hotels and it's location is terrific. But this is the sort of place your grandparents would have called elegant had they had the dough to stAy here. I'm no youngster and I've stayed at many a fine hotel in various parts of the world. You don't hAve to be stuffy to be great. This place is stuffy to the core which detracts from a sense of hospitality. and the bottom line is money rather than hospitality. They even charge for using the tv in your room.

Our room was wonderfully quiet altho we faced the inner courtyard. Given the price it was small (altho with a fine bathroom) and dark. Despite the fabulous breakfast in the roof garden rest with great view of acropolis, I would not choose this place again.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to write you comments after your recent stay at the Hotel Grande Bretagne. Even though you enjoyed some aspects of your stay, such as the breakfast and the great views, we were disappointed to read that you did not like the hotel’s interior design and style, especially after its complete renovation in 2003. Back then the hotel was reconstructed from top to bottom and all its rooms and public areas were newly refurbished, and redecorated in keeping with the old Grande Bretagne’s traditional style as a 5-star hotel. Regarding the in-room TV, we do not charge for this service, unless the guest wishes to view a movie on Pay TV. All channels, local and international, are offered as a free service. Hoping that you might give the hotel another opportunity, we are looking forward to welcoming you back in the near future.
