“Bring a guidebook”
Reviewed 8 May 2012

The only signs are about the reconstruction, there is no information about the acropolis/parthenon itself. We went at the end of the day when the museum was closed but we could watch the sun start to set over the city.

“Amazing place and history”
Reviewed 6 May 2012

Put your walking shoes on and plan on hiking uphill (unless you need the elevator). Great sites, well worth the effort, amazing experience. Note: The small hill directly in front of the Acropolis is Mars Hill, where the apostle Paul gave his famous address.

“An Ancient Wonder”
Reviewed 6 May 2012

The Acropolis, and particular the Parthenon on it, are truly spectacular to see. They are ancient marvels, and this site is a must-see for just that reason. However, when reading all about Athens and the Parthenon and visiting the museum, I learned that pollution is causing this ancient masterpiece to erode away, and at this pace, it will be severely destroyed in a few decades. There is debate over whether to move it indoors or leave it and let it erode. This made me realize that people who can visit the site now are truly getting to witness something that won't be around forever, which made the magnificent of being able to see it even more incredible. I highly recommend that you visit it while it is still there - it's truly amazing, interesting, and beautiful.

“Get there early”
Reviewed 6 May 2012

We went about 9am and it was already starting to get crowded. The weather was great, but I'm sure later in the day it gets really hot and there isn't any shade. Also bring good walking shoes it is a little slippery in some places.

“It was under re-construction”
Reviewed 4 May 2012

Although there was a lot of scaffolding, this was a breathtaking site. Spectacular and highly recommend. The cost was 12 euros and included a 4 day pass, however, we were only in town for one day and by the time we returned on our return trip, we would have needed a second ticket. But it was closed anyway for May Day.
