We spent a week at the Casa de Nora at the beginning of August. We were a party of 6 and had hired a 9 seater people carrier. We were initially confronted by a very steep driveway, which we were not keen to go down as worried we would not get back up again, but this was solved as there was secure parking at the top, this just meant we had to walk up and down this very steep drive which was a bit difficult for my husband and I as we are in our 60s/70s. We were lead down to an amazing pool area with views to die for, then further down to the villa itself, again the views were out of this world, however the Villa which was lovely had obviously not been used for a while and was very hot and really needed some airing, also quite a problem with flies. The Villas, as I say was lovely but needs a bit more love and care and perhaps some updating. The kitchen, although a good size, left a lot to be desired. The living area had sliding French windows, which were badly cracked and covered in very dirty and tatty net curtains. The beds had clean sheets but we're not made and there were not enough pillows. There were clothes left in wardrobe and drawers in one of the bedrooms. The electric kept cutting out when we tried to cook a meal.
Now on the up side, as I said the pool was heavenly, the views were heavenly, the weather was heavenly and we all agreed we really enjoyed our stay. The icing on the cake was the games room, which our two grandson loved and the wonderful restaurant (sorry can't remember the name, think it was The Douro Restaurant) which was just down on the main road.
If you have a normal sized car the driveway would probably not be a problem.
I would recommend this rental but only on the proviso that some upgrading of the property was done.
the house was set in the most tranquil area , with a glimpse of the Douro river.
All in all the house had everything we needed and was presented in a clean and tidy manner.
We found Marco the owner to be very hospitable, he even met us in Porto to show us around, we had a wonderful day.
If we needed anything or wanted to know anything then Marco was on the end on the phone for us.
From the house there are plenty of interesting things to do within an hour or so. Our favourite being a train ride along the river bank. In Marco de Canvasses we found several good restaurants at very reasonable prices.
