I'm sure Igreja do Carmo is part of every walking tour of Porto. The church, and the complex that surrounds it, are an important part of the history of he city.
Our tour did not include the inside of the church as our guide attempting to show us a broad swath of the city (the highlights) in a short period of time.
Recognize that this part of the city is frequented by large groups of tourists, so it can be crowded. Likewise, you should expect encounters with less fortunate, homeless persons.
