This old palace was converted to a Hotel 50 years ago and it seems that very little has been updated since. With stunning views and a short distance from the main areas of Funchal it's in a great location but is in real need of an update. The rooms have no WiFi, no fridge and no air conditioning. The bathrooms are very tired as are the rooms. This of course makes it good value for money, so it takes with one hand and gives with another.

The saving grace was Angela who was super attentive and couldn't do enough to make sure we were all comfortable and looked after.

If you're happy with outdated decor, squeaky taps, lukewarm coffee and hot sticky nights without AC and want to spend more money in the shops then this is the place for you.

If it wasn’t for the view I would have spat the coffee out. How can anyone warrant charging three euro for a cup of coffee in a sub standard 3* star establishment in Funchal, Madeira.
Will not return!

Not recomandable
No wifi in the rooms only at the reception, no hot Water for shower, no fridge in the room, no real Breakfast...ration like a Portion for Kids... the cheapest bread smal peace of butter chease 2x ... the food at the Supermarket is very cheap so it is very sad to give the guests such bad stuff.
no possibility to keep the Key often there is nobody at the Reception to give back the key

no answer on e mails i write before, very noisy because of loud doors....everythink is very old...also the people more than 70 ...like a home for senioren the Hotel closed up at night so u have to ring to come in.
Do NOT book this Hotel!

This is an excellent hotel to stay to visit Rome. The location is excellent! The facility is not modern but that is the charm. But the rooms are clean, and comfort, the staff professional and very helpful. Breakfast worth every penny at 10 euros it is a rooftop location with a spectacular view of the city. Franco was able to recommend a restaurant where the food was so good we return another night. It was around the. Orner for the hotel, so not far to walk when you are tired after a long day of touring. Sergei was so helpful with our luggage on the last day. The place is great would highly recommend it to all A’s worth the money

It really makes a nice change to stay in a small friendly hotel. It may need a bit of updating but i found it to be very clean and comfortable for my needs. You do need to be able to climb up quite a steep hill to reach it but most hotels in Funchal are on a hill. This hotel was very good value for the money, would stay here again if i visit Funchal.
