The hotel is a bit old, but in a good condition.
The staff was friendly and helpful.
There was hot and cold dishes for breakfast, but the breakfast area was all too small and cramped.
The walls was a bit thin.
Stupid placement of switches to bedside lamp, easy to turn on when in sleep.
No suspension to the shower nozzle in room 404.

Ok, so this is not a luxury hotel, but it more than makes for those luxuries with its location and very friendly staff, we stayed in room 102, it had the most amazing balcony with views across the Cathedral and the christmas lights, we could sit there and take in all the magic of Christmas in Funchal, room size is good , yes it could benefit from some modernization, breakfast good choice for a small hotel with great coffee, if you are looking for central location and don't mind some 70's design without all the mod cons of a luxury hotel then this is perfect, we only stayed one night but would be more than happy to stay here again

We had room 402 on the topfloor with a great balcony. Very good view over central Funchal. The central city was christmas decorated beginning of dec 2018, very nice.
Decor from the seventies, old furnitures. Breakfast OK, but first time in life no eggs at breakfast.
But wifi was really bad in our room, 2-4 mb and going off and on I dont know how many times. OK at front desk but doesnt help. We had to use 4G, not OK in a hotel in the year 2018.

Stayed here for 4 nights. Good points: Excellent location right in the centre of things in the old town. Decent sized room. Excellent breakfast with a decent choice. Nice roof top open room area with views over the town. Average points: Staff variable. Some grumpy whilst others went out of their way to help. 70's style and vibe to the place. For us the poor: Whilst its certainly a 70's place we could not decide if it was indeed trendy shabby chic or just a plain old fashioned slightly run down sort of place. Our room whilst a decent size was gloomy and the bathroom and a couple of other area's were just not clean enough for us.

A bit like another reveiw, was a bit apprehensive when we first arrived, front door is between two shops, and one of them had closed down. But once inside...
Yes 70's Portuguese decor, just loved the whole place. The panoramic Terrace was a gem. (If you look at pictures of the cathedral, you can see it ). So, so central, you could walk to anywhere from here. Yet once inside you couldn't hear any noise. What about the staff? They were all excellent, smiley, and helpful. But my favourite was Maria. She would try to accommodate all your wishes, she laughed, was super efficient. Another gem.
I suppose u could say it was modest, compared with the big hotels, where u just sit around. But here, you know you've been to Funchal.lovely restaraunts close by, and family "snack bars" that cook everything fresh and so cheap ! Loved Funchal, but I think this hotel made it easy to see all of it. 10 out of 10 for everything. Thanks Maria for making everything so goodx
