Firstly - fantastic staff, clean and excellent food.

Check in was very efficient. In our room with cases already delivered within minutes.

Room was fine, few negative comments previously, but room was clean, large bathroom, great comfy bed. Room had everything required. Only down side was fresh water, a bottle on arrival then had to buy daily from the supermarket across the road.

Restaurant was better than expected (after reading previous reviews). Breakfast had a large and varied choice, the evening meal buffet was excellent, we couldn't fault the choice and quality. No complaints. Attached dine around restaurants -Italian was good. Porugese with a twist on the kebabs. Didnt manage the suishi. Good option to vary from the buffett ( buffett was good though)

There is a small supermarket across from vidamar which has a small deli within which you can grab a beer/juice from the supermarket along with a sandwich, piece of quiche, soup, pastries etc etc, they'll provide a frozen glass, can sit outside at a few tables. Ciabatta sandwich and 2 beers for about 4 euro ! Good for snacking during the day.

All in all a good stay. Lots of negative comments previously, could record a few but so low level its not worth it. Doesnt quite hit the 5 stars i can see this, but definitely worthy of a visit and would return.

Hotel clean, staff friendly, good size room with nice decor and lovely balcony looking out across hotel grounds and sea (all rooms faced the sea, so I would think they all have a nice view from their balcony).

Good location on the west side of Funchal, about 25 minute walk into town. Lots of nice restaurants very near the hotel so you could easily eat out at a different one every night (although we were on 1/2 board). Well stocked small supermarket just across road with fair prices.

The hotel itself was well presented, restaurant good with plenty of choice and good quality food. The restaurant has an outside seating area with views over the sea - we managed to get a table there every morning and evening (sometimes a short 5 minute wait). Drink prices reasonable.

Not much entertainment in the evening (apart from live music in the upstairs bar) although there was a couple of billiard tables which were free to play on. Daily activities were mainly early morning (too early for us!) or early evening and they were mainly in the hotel gym (one located down on the first floor of the hotel and the other across the road from the hotel). We did go and do our own thing in the gym across the road, which was well equipped and was free to use. They did have aquarobics in the outside pool but we missed this.

The swimming pools were on a lower level (which meant a bit of a walk and a few lift rides (this wasn't a problem for us, but might have been more of an issue if you have younger children that want a bit of freedom!) The pool area was great with lots of sun loungers/sun umbrellas (never a problem getting one, whatever time of day), a good pool side cafe doing lunches, drinks, snacks and the ability to go in the sea - which was a bonus. In fact we hardly used the pools as we preferred going in the sea. There were step ladders down into the (deep) water (NO BEACH so again not so suitable for really young children under 5yrs old or so). There was also a floating platform in the sea which you could easily swim out to and then sunbathe on, or jump off of!!

Overall a nice hotel to stay in if you want a fairly quiet relaxed holiday. If you are wanting something more lively then do check with the hotel before you book what/when activities and entertainment is on. (There was a kid's club, but again this seemed very quiet.)

Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: I think all rooms are sea facing with balconies. Rooms on 5th floor & above probably get a bett...

The hotel is modern style and when we visited, only one tower reception was open. Which didn't cause any issues. Courtesy bus is limited to 8 passengers each trip which must be booked in advance at reception. Trips into town started at 10am and finished at 11:30. Starting again at 4pm until 6pm. The driver Nelson as very helpful. Local bus costs €2 each way.number 1&2&4. The entire hotel us spotlessly clean. View from our room on the 9th floor over the ocean was lovely. Noise in the late evening from the Paradise Restaurant next to the hotel overlooking the ocean. The family room with 2 bedrooms was excellent for us with a teenage son . Lots of space. Kettle with tea and coffee provided in the room.
Limited English language tv channels. Good wifi speed.

Overall a rather bittersweet experience; the hotel has great rooms, wonderful views and a pretty cool pool/ sunbathing area on the sea-front. Also located well for the Lido and a 20 min walk into Funchal perspective. However, it also has no atmosphere, at best very average to below average food and evening entertainment that they should just replace with a little music. We ate in the Hotel 4 nights out of 7 and 2 of those 'hotel' nights were in their 'specialist Italian and Portuguese restaurants' (you can get better for 1/2 the price pretty well anywhere else). The Hotel restaurant 'fish night' you would expect to be special on an island?? Sadly the cold razor clams were full of grit and the hot fish selection was so bad that I (a fish lover) choose lamb chops.

Room Tip: Most of the rooms have a good view

It is a pity that you had a bittersweet experience, though most of the guests find the quality of the served food excellent. We believe that the guests will enjoy the improved fish selection during their stay.
