It's a long way from Vancouver, BC to Portugal so when I was planning my one month artist retreat in Sintra I searched online until I found the perfect place. Cinco B&B met every hope and expectation I had. Carole Haynes greeted me warmly, there were delicious breakfast fixings in the kitchen and refrigerator, the rooms were spotless and inviting, and the bed and sitting room were very comfortable. I spent 9 days in the large apartment and the other 21 days in the cottage. Carole has used her creative magic to create places that are truly a home away from home for travellers. The little touches and attention to detail make it extra special. Both the apartment and the cottage had private gardens overlooking the valley and out to the sea. I was welcome to use the herbs in the garden and made some delicious omelettes. It was a short 5 minute walk to the heart of Sintra and the National Palace. Carole and her husband, Stuart, were super and more than willing to give directions for catching the train to Lisbon, etc., and offered up advice on places to see and restaurants to try. I was sad to leave but will definitely return and highly recommend Cinco to guests looking for a place where they can feel at home in a beautiful environment. For me, Cinco's charms match the charms of Sintra.
