Description: Midori, the oldest Japanese restaurant in the country, has been totally reinvented and redesigned. In the new Midori, the sophisticated decoration in light gray provides a splendid luminosity to the space, in contrast with the magnificent view of the Sintra Mountains and the exquisite and intimate ambience.

Returned to try the new intimate 18 person Midori at Penha Longa and it was an absolute blast from start to finish!
Gorgeous setting, nice lighting, good music and wonderful, friendly service.
Went for the Menu Chisai in a kaiseki style dinner and what an experience it was:
Freshest fish and seafood presented in a phenomenal way. Clearly deserves 1 or 2 Michelin stars.
Chef Pedro ALMEIDA and team are doing a tremendous job and can count on my return soon!

One of the best Japonese restaurants where I ate...and I know lots of them, also with top quality, particularly in London (where I live), Zurich and New York (where I have businesses and travel frequently) The food is really amazing...sooooo gooooood that is difficult to describe. I had a degustation menu with 22 dishes...sooooo...I can confirm that ALL dishes are yummy and an unforgettable gastronomic experience. They mix Portuguese flavours and cuisine with Japonese...creating an unique and super tasty experience.

Just had an amazing dinner with some of the best sushi dishes ever. We had the Midori tasting menu. We were initially worried if my teenage daughter would like it, as she can be fussy. But once we had the 1st course of beautiful tasting and presented food, we soon changed our minds. All the staff were lovely and the chef came our and gave the stories behind the fabulous sushi dishes. A very memorable meal. Highly recommended!

Just got home from dinner at this restaurant and have to report that it's just not the same as it used to be.
The table wasn't ready when we arrived, the service was terrible, it was difficult to attract the attention of a waiter, the waiting staff lacked training I guess due to a lack of management, an order of sashimi took so long to arrive - overall disappointing and too expensive for what was average quality food with only the tempura being good.
The interior design and layout is now compromised with a mixture of how it used to be and new additions and changes - most notably the division of what was one restaurant into 2 with the entrance to Midori passing a service area with the door open! Strange.
We used to go to this restaurant very often, it would now take a lot to get us back there!

We were staying at Penha Longa donate one night at Midori. It is a beautiful modern Japanese restaurant influenced by Portuguese cuisine - the chef is very passionate about both Japanese cooking methods, having worked in Japan for several years, and his native Sintra cooking and this is an excellent blend. We had the 7 course Midori tasting menu which I would recommend as it gives a perfect balance of all the dishes. Even the pudding was very good! The service is friendly and knowledgeable especially the US born sommelier who is very clear on her excellent recommendations. We would go again if staying in the resort.
