“A perfect starting point for discovering the heart of Lisbon”
Reviewed 5 July 2016 for a stay in June 2016

The truly cozy, nicely renovated and clean apartment in the heart of the Alfama is the perfect starting point for discovering Lisbon. Abel and Susana are really welcoming and very quick to answer any inquiry you might have. Being in the heart of the Alfama means falling asleep every night to the heartfelt sounds of Fado drifting into your open bedroom window. Just around the corner are a host of typical Portuguese restaurants and bars. With the Santa Apalonia train/metro station and bus/tram stops nearby you can get to pretty much every corner of the city or the beaches of Estoril or Cascais within the hour.
We really loved the apartment and enjoyed our two weeks in this beautiful city.
Everything we needed was there and we even had a cleaning and a change of bed and batch linen halfway our stay.
Getting to the apartment on foot requires some uphill climbing and scaling 2 steep sets of stairs in the apartment building which may be demanding with heavy suitcases or when you're less fit.

Liked best: Living in the heart of the Alfama.
Liked least: Having to climb the steep stairs at the end of every outdoor trip. (We're somewhat 'disabled')

Management Response

Thank you so much for your review!
Regarding the apartment directions, we always provide a detailed map to our guests, fully describing the best way to reach the apartment, either if you come by subway or taxi - in fact is relatively simple to get there.
About the key issue, in fact it was really broken and we had to replaced it. We'd be more than happy to promptly fix it (as we normally do with this sort of issues) if you did tell us about it :-)
The alley where the apartment is located is relatively quiet and calm, specially during night period, as normally all our guests refer. Despite that, the apartment's windows provide very good noise and weather isolation when closed.

We're glad you had a wonderful experience, and hope to welcome you back!
Thank you so much.

“The heart of Lisbon!”
Reviewed 6 July 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Abel'so property is right smack dab in the heart of the Alfama area of Lisbon. For this was the perfect place to begin my trip in Portugal. From the moment I arrived at the apartment, I was greeted immediately by Susanna who showed me around the apartment. Although the apartment is tiny it is the perfect place to get a true sense of Portuguese culture. I was able to walk to many of the famous Lisbon landmarks from this spot. You can easily walk to the castle up the cobblestone roads within 15 minutes. You can walk to the main plaza within 15 minutes as well passing many shops and wonderful restaurants. There are many shops and markets near the apartment including several restaurants where you can see fado in the evening. The apartment itself has a small living area, a small kitchen, and a small bedroom. The living room overlooks a small alley which is home too many of the chatty locals. It can get loud at times during the day and evening because the apartments are so close together. However, this is a great time to soak in all the sounds Portuguese daily life. Most noise comes to a halt by 11 p.m. I usually closed the soundproof windows before I went to sleep and would open them again sometime in the night to let the wonderful breeze flow through the apartment. Opening the bedroom window and the living room window allows in the most incredible breeze. The apartment is also equipped with cable television which has many channels in English and Portuguese. The wifi in the apartment was outstanding and I never had any problems connecting. The bathroom was tiny but the shower had great water pressure. Please be aware that the apartment is on the second floor and has very steep steps to climb to get to the door. Do not be tricked by the large lock in the front door. There is a smaller keyhole directly underneath it and behind the knocker. Also please be aware that most of Portugal is made up of old cobblestones. Be careful when wearing shoes or sandals that don't have much tread because it is very easy to slip on the streets as I did numerous times. Overall, please do not miss the opportunity to stay in this great apartment where the surrounding area offers a true glimpse of the real Lisbon.

“Beautiful little flat”
Reviewed 23 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

This flat was excellent in a lovely part of Lisbon. We had a wonderful week and would definitely recommend both Lisbon and the flat. Our only negative comment is that there are 27 narrow steps from the alleyway to the apartment which was no problem to us personally, but with a relatively large case, this was difficult both up and down. However the flat has everything you could need for a comfortable stay. The area as one of the other guests stated, at first looks a little run down, we arrived at midnight, but it was wonderful to explore the narrow alleyways. Lovely, lovely place.
Our disappointment was not meeting Abel or Susana
