Great hotel

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 4 Apr 2024
We stayed 3 over the Easter weekend and couldn't recommend the hotel enough. It was my birthday on the Saturday but we didn't mention it so we were really surprised and touched to come back to a bottle of sparkling wine in our room from the staff, a really really nice touch.

The location was great, only a couple minutes walk from the Baixa-Chiado metro station - its also worth noting it is a flat walk. It was a really great hub for exploring the city in all directions with everything only a short walk away and tram stops nearby.

The room was a great size with a nice table in the window to sit and look out onto the street and it has a Nespresso machine and a SMEG (!) kettle.

There are a plethora of breakfast options and bars nearby so the lack of these facilities in this hotel (as they are in the other Browns hotels just down the road) was not an issue.

Would definitely stay here again.

This modern hotel has an artsy vibe, and is located on a quiet street very close to the main pedestrian street in the Baixa. Our Uber was able to drop us off right in front of the hotel. There is an elevator so you don’t have to carry luggage up the stairs. The staff spoke English so we had no problems communicating. There’s a TV with Netflix. Our breakfast was included and we only had to walk a block away to another Brown’s hotel for a really good hot breakfast that included lots of variety including fresh fruit and self-serve coffee. Our room was clean and comfortable and had everything needed for a pleasant stay of several nights. The hotel is in a terrific location, within walking distance of many shops, cafes and restaurants and yet we still found it to be very quiet at night. It’s a two or three minute walk to the closest Metro station and escalator to the Chiado district. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to other travellers.

We found this hotel on booking.com, then booked direct as I could get a superior room plus breakfast than the price of a small room on booking.com.

We took an Uber from the airport to the hotel and this cost us €8.92.

We included breakfast and I’m really glad because it was completely worth it. Browns Downtown has 2 sister hotels, these are Browns Boutique and then Browns central. We had evening drinks most nights in browns boutique, because we absolutely loved the vibe, plus you get 10% off all drinks. Breakfast is served in Browns central, again we loved this because it felt like we headed out for breakfast and the choice was great.

The location of this hotel is very central and it’s so easy to access most of the main attractions on foot from here. If needed there is a metro only a 5 minute walk away, however the Ubers in Lisbon are very cheap so we stuck to that for transport when needed.

All the staff work incredibly hard and made our stay very special! We will definitely be back one day!

Room tip: Book this hotel direct as there’s usually good offers. Book Ubers to get from the airport to the hotel, they cost around €9

We had a great stay at this Brown's hotel (there are three more in the area so don't get confused about where you booked!) We booked a small room given we were going to spend most of our time exploring the city, and honestly, I'm glad we ignored the negative reviews regarding room sizes - the room was perfectly fine for two people with 'normal-sized' luggage! We particularly appreciated the fridge, as we were not having breakfast included with the hotel, so could store drinks and snacks to have at our leisure.

Keep in mind you're staying in the most tourist-y area of Lisbon - it was never "silent" as such, but the noise level was perfectly acceptable in terms of sleeping. Likewise, you're never going to be the only people in the hotel, so there was occasional minor noise from the adjoining rooms, but nothing concerning or abnormal for this type of hotel. If that's a worry for you, just bring earplugs!

The staff were all very affable and happy to help, and overall I'd recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Lisbon for a city break!

Browns Downtown hotel is located in the heart of old Lisbon, a couple of streets from the modern metro system and among cafes and restaurants. The staff is welcoming and accommodating and helpful.
Breakfast in Browns Central, a short block away is a very good buffet and we recommend getting it included when you book.
The rooms are well equipped and air conditioned. Our castle-view suite was large and had lots of closet space. I mentioned in an email that our trip was an important birthday milestone and a bottle of sparkling wine was on ice when we got to our room. There is a refrigerator, a Nespresso and coffee capsules.
We would definitely stay at this hotel or one of the other Browns hotels nearby on our next visit

Room tip: If you have mobility issues, stick to rooms lower than the castle view suites.

A lovely hotel in the city center
The hotel is relatively new, very convenient to access anywhere in the city. The beds and rooms are very comfortable, a welcome drink is served at a nearby hotel and breakfast is served at another hotel right next door.
The price of the hotel is very convenient for a short trip to the city
recommended
