It was much better than I expected. Great variety, truly a gem in Portugal.
The cafes were excellent with good food and cheap priced

Certainly Senhor Gulbenkian had help with a curator or two, as this is a MAGNIFICENT private collection. We have see other privately-acquired collections, most notably the Anderson Collection within the Stanford Campus in Palo Alto, California. The Gulbenkian collection is a great cross-section of the interests and shows the passions of the collector. Highly recommended!

I love museums but this place was extra special. Not only was the collection great it was displayed so well. What a collector he was! It is definitely worth the visit. The day we were there was Founders Day and admission was free. The cafe is wonderful. Lots of variety on the menu and you can sit outside looking at the park like setting. Great visit!

I think that is the museum that I most enjoyed in Lisbon. The works of art are all part of one man's personal collection. It starts with Egyptian and ancient Greek artefacts and is basically laid out in chronological order.and ends with art nouveau jewellery. I particularly liked the section on tiles. We spent all morning there, taking a break for coffee at the museum cafe, enjoying siting outside looking over the lake. We could certainly have found something to eat for lunch there, but did not as we had brought a picnic with us. The gardens around the museum are well laid out with plenty of places in the shade to eat. The grounds are lovely. After lunch we visited the modern art collection, another building on the same site. It was a really enjoyable day.

One morning we decided to visit the Gulbenkian. We didn’t know what to expect. We didn’t have any idea of how large it is. We started the tour in the modern art building. It was an impressive collection of pieces by area artists from various years using a variety of media.

We were also blown away by the collection of antiquities. We learned a great deal from the various items.

They also had great pieces from well known masters.

This is a must see destination.
