“A Little Piece of Heaven”
Reviewed 20 May 2013 for a stay in May 2013

This wonderful home is a little piece of heaven in Lisbon, Portugal. Austin, Debbie, and Jordan are the epitome of "fantastic" hosts. I became ill upon arrival to Lisbon and had to go to the hospital. Austin and her brother met the rest of my family at the taxi and helped them with all the bags. They helped my family get settled in and kept in touch with me until I was able to get to the house. The house is simply "heaven." The amazing view and peace and quiet helped me convalesce until I felt better. You can want for nothing in this house. From the beds all the way down to the linens, everything is luxurious. Staying in one of their houses is like staying with family. This house is worth every penny and more. Go there on your trip to Lisbon and you will see what I mean. You will definitely want to go back. - Be sure to take Austin's advice. This wonderful home is located at the top of one of Lisbon's hill areas (similar to San Francisco hills) and is not good for those who have difficulty walking...

“As good as it gets...”
Reviewed 5 November 2012 for a stay in October 2012

We stayed at Casa Villa Serra for 5 nights, and couldn't have asked for more. The owner, Jordan, was waiting to greet us from the taxi (he had even brought umbrellas in case of showers), and later took us on a really useful orientation trip around the immediate neighbourhood. The apartment is located at the top of one of Lisbon's many hills which means that it not only enjoys fantastic views but is also relatively peaceful at night. If you are of reasonable fitness, every district in the older part of town is within 30 mins walking distance, including Alfama, Bairro Alto, Chiado, Baixa, Rossio, Comércio and Graca, including the Castelo de Sao Jorge. If you do run out of steam, there are wonderful old trams and funiculars to take you up the hills along with a superb modern Metro system. (Best value is to buy a 'Viva Viagem' card and charge it up with either a daily pass or a fixed amount of credit which is debited every time you make a journey).

The apartment itself is equipped with just about every facility you could wish for, although we ended up eating out for almost every meal as the prices in Lisbon are so reasonable (if you avoid the obvious tourist-trap eateries).

Highlights for us included: eating in local restaurants (often those recommended by Jordan), visiting the Castelo Sao Jorge, a day trip on the train to Sintra, a tram journey to Belém (don't miss out on the local speciality pastry served at the Antiga Casa dos Pastéis de Belém, the Museo Coleccao Berado or the Padrao dos Descobrimentos) and a night of local food and Fado in the Bairro Alto. The people of Lisbon seemed almost universally friendly, honest and relaxed.

Overall then, a lovely stay in a great city.

“Excellent place, great hospitality”
Reviewed 18 August 2012 for a stay in August 2012

We spent a week in Casa Villa Serra and Casa Patria as an extended family group: two adults and three daughters in early 20's. We each had a separate bedroom and lots of space. Jordan met us from our taxi stop and brought us to the houses ( in a quiet cul-de-sac on top of one of Lisbon's famous hills ) and took us on a whistle stop tour of town, pointing out the many attractions, transport systems and good places to eat. The houses are both very well equipped with absolutely everything you might need: mobile phones for local calls, laptop, wifi and even a bottle of chilled Vinho Verde in the fridge! The beds are very comfortable with good linens and the area is very quiet to ensure a good night's sleep. The terraces are both fabulous with amazing views of Lisbon and the castle (esp Casa Villa Serra) - a great place to chill out after a day walking and sightseeing. The local shop is delightful - not terribly well stocked but a great place for some nice fruit, hot croissants and good wine. Although we didn't get around to using the barbies there is a good local butcher to buy supplies from. We would all HIGHLY recommend Casa Villa Serra and Casa Patria for the lovely houses but especially for the hospitality and guidance of Jordan & Deb
