“Absolutely Fantastic”

The Windmill was so beautiful inside and out, everything in the pictures and more! Susana met us on arrival and gave us a tour, showed us where everything was and how everything worked, etc. Susana then showed us her booklet that she made which was brilliant and leaflets of all the things to do in Sintra. We had an amazing time and would definitely love to go back one day! Thank you Susana for a wonderful stay!

“Delightful quirky property”
Reviewed 24 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

Not an ancient windmill but a quirky construction by the grandfather of the owner. There are all sorts of interesting details and unexpected building materials in the construction. There are two outside seating areas, so you can catch the sun or shade at any time of day.
Susanna met us on arrival and left us lots of information, as well as bread, cheese and wine - a lovely touch. She left us contact details and recommendations for some lovely local restaurants. The property was beautifully maintained and spotlessly clean. The bedroom on the top floor was cool, despite the hot weather, and also had an excellent fan. Bed a little on the firm side, but we slept all.
We had a wonderful few days there.
A few things you might like to know, though:
It's not as quiet a location as we imagined, right on a busy road (and the many local dogs bark day and night!)
There is basic kitchen equipment, but only a tiny oven and two rings. There is a large fridge freezer though.
Although there is a sofa bed downstairs, there is no door to the bedroom so not much privacy between the two sleeping areas. Not really ok for two couples and could be an issue for a couple with children.
The details do not make it clear that the bedroom and bathroom / toilet are two floors away from each other. For some people this would be a difficulty. (The details say there are three bathrooms, not correct. Thought that was a bit odd. There are three sinks - one in the bathroom, one outside the bathroom and one in the kitchen).
These are just things for bookers to be aware of, they did not spoil our holiday (although my husband was delighted to get back to a bathroom next door to the bedroom!)
Thanks Susanna for your welcome and for a lovely stay.

“Lovely and relaxing despite the rain”
Reviewed 16 May 2016 for a stay in May 2016

My boyfriend and I decided to stay in a windmill in Portugal after I had told him about my mum staying in one years ago.. After a bit of research he then found this gem.. The windmill is really cute and Susanna the owner greeted us with wine and cheese. Everything is provided but nobody bothers you. Sintra and all the palaces are really close and the beach and the little town of Cascais are close by too and well worth a visit. The village has a little shop and some good restaurants too. There's a market on at weekend where you can purchase local food and "green wine" which is delicious! Although we were unlucky with the weather we still had an amazing time! Thank you Susanna! Xx

“Lovely place”
Reviewed 20 October 2015 for a stay in October 2015

We stayed here for two nights with our two children. The windmill is lovely, beautifully done and built by the current owners grandfather. The accommodation is comfortable though you couldn't throw a dinner party with the kitchen facilities. Our stay was only marred by the fact that the owner wanted to charge us an additional €60 for our stay over and above what had been agreed up front for 2 adults and 2 children. This because the owner felt our children were more grown up..... They are 15 and 13 so we were both surprised and irritated by this... Take care... We didn't pay any extra.......

I stayed here recently with my girlfriend for a week. It was a surprise for her birthday and she couldn't have been happier. The Windmill is truly beautiful inside and out. You can tell it has been built with amazing care.
Every little detail has been thought of. The host Susana was brilliant too. So very accommodating and incredibly friendly.
Almocageme is a pretty little village with beautiful restaurants/cafes, beaches and very friendly people.
