This property is amazing. Friendly staff, fantastic pool (around 18/20 meters with a proper deep end and a shallow end perfect for children). The staff go above and beyond to make the stay comfortable and are incredibly helpful. Comfy beds.We were in a twin room with a private bathroom. But even though the protest was full when we were there there was never a bathroom queue as there are many facilities with showers and toilets. The garden is really beautiful to sit out in, pool loungers, picnic tables and free to use barbecue makes this an ideal self catering spot. Large kitchen which does get busy at peak meal times however is big enough to accommodate and is fully furnished. There is a laundry service at €15 for a full wash, dry and fold. Location is also brilliant. It’s not far from pints delgada and just off a main motorway and connected to the azure bus line (stop 12)so easily accessible. Despite the proximity to the main toad the property is sheltered, private and very peaceful. Nearby there is a large supermarket with everything you need for self catering and a mcdonald’s which is open until 2am if you need a last minute ice cream fix. Great base for day excursions followed by a cooling dip in the pool. We were there as two friends travelling and perfect for that and also families with children of all ages. There are also options at the property to book massages and to hire a smart car. Airport collection available. For the price it’s perfect. Didn’t want to leave.
My husband and I visited the Azores this past summer on our honeymoon - the pictures are to be believed. A more beautiful island I cannot imagine.
Casa Barao das Laranjeiras is located on the outskirts of town (Ponta Delgada)
We found to town itself to have a sort of mixed identity. Set back from the sea front you find the narrow streets and old buildings that you will see in alot of the photos on Google etc, this part of town was truly beautiful. There were many hole in the wall bars and cute little shops to peruse. Down by the harbour however there are some newer buildings / bars / bowling nightlife and you don't feel so much immersed in the culture of the Azores. Also there is no beach to speak of in town... not a critism! We can't all have a beach in town, but something we only found out upon getting to know the area. For amazing beaches (and seafood) head east along the coast and you won't be disappointed.
Furnas, the blue, green lakes and Nordeste were real show stoppers.
Casa Barao das Laranjeiras served as a great base for us in the evenings. You have a fully equipped kitchen with every pot, pan and utensil you could imagine. It is within very close proximity to a supermarket (which sold vegan /wholefood produce should anyone be interested)
The hallway / foyer were beautifully decorated. Large pool, a balcony with little bistro tables that leads straight of the kitchen for Al fresco dining. Lovely spacious bathrooms, great big windows / shutters to keep you cool on the hot, humid (and I really do mean humid) Azorzean nights. The crickets are something else, nowhere have we heard crickets that loud. Take ear plugs (again not a critism, it's a beautiful island with inevitable wildlife) but if you are not a particularly heavy sleeper and you value your sanity, I would strongly recommend ear plugs.
The two hosts we met regularly were lovely, warm helpful and jolly. There was no ask too much and they just wanted to make sure that we enjoyed our holiday. Unfortunately I broke my arm on day 5/10. Being thousands of miles from home it was a real comfort to be around caring people. The host even kindly arranged for his son to drive us to the airport at the end of our stay.
We would absolutely stay again! Can't fault these people or the service they provide. Their heart is really in it.
