“Peaceful bliss for a low key getaway holiday”
Reviewed 9 November 2013 for a stay in October 2013

I needed to take a week's break to catch up with studying for my part time MBA degree so decamped to Faro to Ninho do Amor with all of my text books mid October. I got exactly what I hoped for, quiet solitude and wifi to hook into my university's systems. The owners (Karl and Daph) went well out of their way to make sure I was comfortable, moving the wifi closer to the cottage for a better signal as well as offering use of their printer when I had to print out an essay, we had a great barbecue together one evening too but the rest of the time I was on my own which was what I wanted.

The cottage is about 20 min or so easy driving from Faro airport and the directions provided were great - investing a bit of time in advance on google streetview also helped to know where I was going. The bed was very comfortable, water pressure (especially the shower) was very good, the flat was spotlessly clean, it was secure with gated off road under cover parking, had the bonus of UK freeview (I wish I had that at home in Germany). The small welcome pack included inside the fridge to get me started was very appreciated, arriving as I was after a 20 hour day.

Also included were numerous leaflets advertising local tourist attractions plus a travel guidebook, a small film and music library and a kitchenette. Karl and Daph (the owners) also had generated a quite detailed mini guide to the local area including descriptions for a drive around the local area to get to know it as well as recommendations for nearby attractions, restaurants and shops. The kitchenette would be fine for basic meals (It had 2 halogen hobs), but I only made breakfast there because you could easily get a 3 course meal with a glass of wine in the local town (Olhao) for under 20 euros per person. Chicken Louis (one of the restaurants they suggest) in the opposite direction is also very good and the local supermarket in Olhao and Faro were easy to find.

For those unable to turn their blackberries off, yes it does have reception and as others have said you definitely need a hire car. Further, it wouldn't suit for anyone with kids in tow (unless they're still in a moses basket or travel cot) as it's not that big. But if you or the 2 of you want to destress in a fairly remote area up in the hills (yet still be only 15 minutes from the ocean), this ticks the box. I'm trying to convince my elderly parents to let me fly them out to have a holiday there as the plot it's on is pretty flat so Mum could hobble around to the pool to enjoy the view.

Overall, definitely recommended, I'd happily consider going back again.

“The Nest was the Best,,”
Reviewed 16 September 2013 for a stay in September 2013

This was one of the nicest vacations ever.It was mainly due to our vacation ville and the people who rented it. Karl and Daph open their home and made us feel like one of the family. This is more than a rental home,, it's a home away from home that one can use to experience the fantastic Portugal people, food and of course,, wine. We can't wait to go back some day..
We miss the nest already!

“Genuinely great hosts”
Reviewed 20 December 2012 for a stay in September 2012

We stayed in September 2012 and found Karl and Daphne to be amongst the most gracious and generous hosts we have ever stayed with. We felt welcome and at home.

The cottage is semi rural and so transport is needed. We found the GPS co-ordinates given in the welcome pack to be required to find it. Our Garmin Sat Nav was preloaded with a number of the local facilities but Karl and Daphne provided very comprehensive tips for the local area.

Upon arrival the fridge was stocked with cheese, cooked meats, milk and some of the nicest bread we've tasted in some time.

Our best tips for the holiday were Antonios for Steak on the Stone; one of the loveliest meals we've ever had, and Louis Dos Frangos for barbecued chicken (be prepared for a wait if you get there after 8pm).

Hope to return to Ninho (or one of Karl and Daphne's other properties) in the near future! Thanks for a lovely stay.

“Beautiful location, great place to stay”
Reviewed 2 December 2012 for a stay in June 2012

We went for our honeymoon in June 2012. Driving down from Lisbon airport took a couple of hours but it was really straightforward - we would've gone to Faro airport which is really near but it was cheaper for us to fly to Lisbon as we used my sister's avios.

It is such an idyllic location, in the middle of the countryside but easy to drive to towns for shopping, beaches etc. It's so easy to get to the whole of the Algarve from there, the furthest we drove was probably about an hour away, maybe slightly more.

We would recommend it to couples as it's a lovely quiet getaway, very relaxed and romantic. The pool is amazing, with fantastic views and the sea in the distance.

There is a mountain just across the way that is a nature reserve, so you can imagine how peaceful a setting this place is.

The Algarve is full of amazing beaches, and just nearby is Faro's Ria Formosa which is BEAUTIFUL. We took a motorboat over to one of the islands and it's just so relaxing. And only about a 20 minute drive from Ninho D'Amor.

The cottage itself is basic but lovely - comfy bed, very clean, very easy for self-catering. Great shower & bathroom, pool is lovely as already mentioned, and a cute little arbour outside which is great for a candlelit dinner.

We would advise definitely hiring a car though, as there doesn't appear to be any transport links at all, so it would make getting around very hard. There is secure parking available next to the cottage.

The directions to the cottage were really easy to follow (even for us!) so although it is out in the sticks, it's not hard to find at all.

The owners, Karl & Daphne, are awesome. They're so friendly & helpful, and really make finding your way around very easy. Really really lovely people. They were there to welcome us with a lovely cool drink by the pool. :)

Would love to go back someday and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to anyone.

“Superb little apartment with shared pool, quiet location”
Reviewed 21 November 2012 for a stay in November 2012

Superbly furnished little place with attentive and friendly hosts living next door. It has tiled floors, a huge bed, shower room, kitchenette with gas hob (no oven) and all usual appliances such as microwave, toaster and kettle. Hosts offered use of washing machine and tumble drier but these are not in in the house. The TV has all British TV channels (similar to freesat) and there is also a CD player, free wifi, fan heaters for winter and air conditioning for summer, comfy chairs including a rocker but no sofa, use of spotless clean pool and surroundings with sun beds, parasols etc, well tended gardens including car port, boule court and BBQ area. Ninho do Amor is in a very quiet situation on hills above Estoi village, and all this only 20 mins drive from Faro airport. November weather included blue skies and hot sun, but also torrential rain and even tornadoes touching down further along the coast. On the wettest day we were returning home after dark with thunder and lightning crashing around, reduced to second gear following the lights of the car in front and wipers on double speed. Don't believe everything you read about suicidal Portugese drivers ~ everyone was being very sensible in conditions like that. And yet next day we were sunbathing again in shorts and bare feet. Don't get me started on the local restaurants such as Antonio's at Moncarapacho otherwise we'll be here all day, and the evening walks along the sea front at both Olhao and Fuseta were very enjoyable. For oldies like us this short winter break had everything we wanted, and we'll probably come again.
