The golf package here with accommodation is one of the best In the whole of the Algarve. Portugal is pricing itself out of the golf market for the normal golfer but Pestana is still definitely a good price. Please, please do not ruin it!

Just returned from a 5 day golf trip with friends, and with it being the 3rd year in a row, it was the worst one yet. All started with the villas we booked. One of the villas wasn't ready for at least 2 hours when arrived, luckily we had one to rest in after we travelled. We had booked a 5 and a 4 as there were 9 of us, but when we arrived, we only got a 4 and a 4. After speaking to reception, they said they would sort it after our golf. And they did! There was a camp bed lying outside our front door! Previous villas had pull down sofa beds which was perfect. Not exactly what you would expect for what you pay for! After that the level of service went right down hill. They also changed one of our golf venues that we booked in advance but failed to let us know, even after we booked the transfer. Finally I have to mention the buggies, as essential as they are, they are horrendously over priced. 45 Euro per buggie is the fee and even playing the full 5 days, there was no compromise on the price. I don't think we'll be the last to say this but this is definatley our last year with Pestana resorts. Shame really, as the courses are superb but the customer service is shocking.

Great deal unlimited golf 5 games and stayed for only 4 nights at fab appartment. Only negative expensive buggies.. Staff were brilliant and we played Gramavho twice, vale de Pinta, Silves and the Jewel in the crown Vila Sol.

Nine of us played in June and have never come across such a rude, ignorant and unhelpful starter who tried his very best to ruin our day whether it was tee pairings or buggies(which we were trying to pay for) either ignored you or just walked off. His supervisor explained oh he's always like that and he retires in a few months !! He is the first or only person most visitors will see pre golf and his customer service is non existent, good golf course, nice food but the starter needs retiring ASAP, first impressions on arrival very poor.

I have been three years in a row to Pestana Gramacho October/September time and intend to return. It's hard to know what way to review it as there are lots of different aspects that I could delve into. The Pestana group consists of a number of different courses on the Algarve with Gramacho and Pinta pretty much beside each other. I have stayed in apartments on the Gramacho course each time and mostly played Gramacho however I have also got transfers to other Gramacho courses.

The atmosphere is quite relaxed and while buggies are not obligatory the reality is that with the heat and the fact that pretty much everyone uses one then you are better off using them. They come in at just under fifty euro a go (seats two) and at that it's a bit of a stealth tax on your trip but be aware of it and don't over analyse it and it doesn't have to be a negative. The courses are busy and the first tee is well run with a starter operating to keep things moving and in order. If you are a two or three ball don't be surprised to be joined by someone else added in by the management.

The town of Carveiro is walkable however in reality a taxi is better. You can get a taxi ordered at reception and there is a rank in town full of taxis to take you home - expect to pay around ten euros per journey. It is not the wildest town around so if you want a party atmosphere look elsewhere however there are plenty of great restaurants and a few lively bars to keep it relaxed. You don't have to go in every night there are cooking facilities in the apartments if you want to cook and there is a decent enough menu at the clubhouse. The food in town is better but you will do alright at the clubhouse for a night or two.

There is a awful lot I haven't covered here and don't want to write war and peace but suffice to say I have been three years in a row and have many fond memories on and off the course. The courses are busy but it is within reason just go with the right attitude and enjoy!! And do make sure to have a pint (or coffee!) on the veranda overlooking the 18th green after your round ....

Room Tip: Try and get a golf course view...
