Mixed group of people from 20 to 70 years of age and all enjoyed our stay at Villa Malu. Communications as fantastic from Susana and any questions or requests such as transfers were answer quickly and well. Yes the villa is elevated however this adds to its character with fantastic views of the marina and ocean, with sun on the pool area all day long. Villa is very clean and had maid service at the end of the first week so it’s well looked after. Furniture was in good condition and functional for the entire party and more. It’s a bit older fashioned than our taste but it reflects the owners character not ours and it was bright and welcoming.
Marina is a 10min walk down and yes a 20min walk back or €4 in a taxi. Old town a good 15min walk to the outskirts again a challenging walk back which we did a few times or around €6 in the taxi. Albufeira is a hilly area so you should be prepared for the hills are well worth it for the location in my opinion. There is a well stocked supermarket 10mins away towards the old town or a few in the marina although that route is a bit steeper. For a bigger party requiring more shopping and beer I felt the car was necessary with Aldi and Lidl’s 5mins drive away although it’s not 100% required if everyone pitches in with a bag or two.
Highlights in the house is definitely outdoors with great seating areas, a BBQ in the pool area which we used well, the pool table and table tennis were often used and good quality although perhaps new bats would help my game. It’s a deep good sized pool with ample loungers.
Outside the house Indian Ocean restaurant was the best value and meal we had, and for the adventurous the easy dive company in the marina was quite an experience at €100 for training, all equipment and a 12m dive out in the sea.
All in would return to Albufeira and the house in the future
5 friends and I arrived at Villa Malu with high expectations, and they were all exceeded. Despite our late arrival, airport transfers were all arranged for us, we were welcomed and shown round the property, then left to enjoy our holiday.
The Villa is huge. Big Kitchen, lounge area, dining room, large kitchen (two fridges and plenty of cupboard space), 2 double beds, 4 singles, 4 bathrooms all with showers, not to mention a table tennis and pool table outside. We spent most of our time by the pool, which overlooks the Albufeira marina on one side and has views of the sea on the other. The house is situated in a quiet, clean area, with palm trees and other properties of a high standard.
Every night we walked into the old town for a meal or some drinks, which did take 15 minutes, but it's a coastal walk down the hill, and you don't need to be any closer than you are. A supermarket is just round the corner from the property which allowed us to stock up and pop there whenever to get money out.
Overall it was a week of luxury. If what you're looking for is a Villa to relax in and a place to walk into at night that has a lot of life, then this is definitely the place for you.
House is not child friendly inside and very dated in need of modern touch.
Fantastic views I must say but not close to anything.
We had a pram and was along walk to get about and not as if you could call for a taxi.
It is not 5 or 10 mins to the beach, more like 20 with a pram.
I won't return here but it does have some fantastic views....it does need updating though.
Family holiday for two weeks to include one set of grandparents, parents (us) and two boys (aged 4 and 1) and my sister and her partner. We arrived to a thunderstorm but thankfully it got better. Picked up at the airport by Yellowfish transfers. Superb service. The driver Paulo was exactly where he said he would be. He offered to carry luggage, paid special attention to the children and, most importantly, got us to our destination. Susana met us at the villa and showed us round.
Villa Malu is in the Cerro Grande area. A lovely residential area up on the hillside with views to the sea and marina. The rooms are excellent. Our family of 4 took the bedrooms on the ground floor. Our 4 year old had a choice of two single beds and shared a room with his brother who slept in the travel cot provided.
His dad and I took the other ground floor room. A lovely double with bathroom. The bathroom didn't have a fixed shower head over bath so we used the ground floor main bathroom for showering.
The two upstairs doubles are both ensuite and both have access to the terraces. The matresses are quite firm on all beds.
The kitchen is good size and has two fridges. I think we would have struggled with one. The living room also a good size but not often used. We didn't use the inside dining room at all. It's very formal. The stair gates were a necessity with our one year old and an added bonus as we didn't realise they would be provided.
Air con in all bedrooms which was great when the temperatures got up to the mid 20s.
There is cable TV but all the kids channels are not in English so if you have children you may want to bring a few DVDS. Wifi also provided but was patchy at times.
The pool area is great with plenty of sunbeds, a BBQ area and dining area and washing line. There weren't any pool toys as such so we purchased a few inflatables for the boys which we will leave behind for the next family. There is also a ping pong table.
As we stayed for 2 weeks the cleaning team came one week in and cleaned the while villa and changed beds and towels. All included in the price. The pool man also came one week in. There is a net provided so we did clean the pool most days as well.
Our first day we did a big shop at the Continental. Taxi there and back was less than 10 euro. HOWEVER we discovered the next day that the intermercado down the hill and opposite the cemetery had everything we needed and was no more expensive. Also saved any further taxi trips. Lovely staff and they also do coffee and pastries.
The old town is a pleasant 15 minute walk from the villa all downhill. It was steep in places coming back but didn't prove any difficulty for us pushing the pram. Yes the pavements are cobbled but it was fine. Some favourites for eating in the old town include O David (Friendly staff and great chicken) Flavours also does amazing steaks and fish. My parents ate in a lovely place overlooking the sea called Restaurant 54. The Chinese place called Oshi is also worth a visit and extremely reasonably priced. Shalom II is great for food and the staff are excellent. These are all child friendly places. We had breakfast in the villa most mornings but towards the end of the holiday we decided to go out. We stopped off at Eddies which is en route to the square but have to say the welcome wasn't great and too many tables were sitting without food. We left and ate closer to the square.
Finally if you want the best crepes and ice creams in town then look no further than Sapori di Gelato.
Overall we have had a great family holiday and can genuinely recommend Villa Malu!
Villa Malu is is beautiful place to stay, with a perfect pool for relaxing in. The Villa is furnished to a high standard, and the air conditioned bedrooms make it possible to be comfortable at night despite the heat.
There is a lovely lounge, a well organised kitchen , and several en suite bathrooms. However we spent most of our time outside on the balcony, or around the pool, which is set in attractive gardens.
The availability of a washing machine meant it was easy to deal with swimming kit and beach towels.
A lovely villa, and a lovely holiday.!
