The hotel itself is in a good location, right next to the aqueduct and within the walls. It's an easy walk into the centre of town (turn left on leaving the main entrance) which takes roughly 10 minutes.
The hotel rooms themselves vary, on the ground floor many have the old features, which include windows at ceiling level. Only a few of the rooms have a view of the aqueduct so if that's important to you, you will need to pay the upgrade or end up facing the back alley. My room was on the first floor and had been very poorly designed. The bathroom was especially illogical with the towel rail in the separate section housing the loo and taps that you could only reach if you climbed in the bath. Tip: if you want to switch from bath to shower you need to pull out the end of the tap, where the water comes out (I had to ask reception).
Breakfast is in the subterranean restaurant and was very nice. There are some coffee pod machines in the corridors that also dispense hot water should you want a cup of tea.

Room Tip: Select your room type with care. Ground floor rooms have little natural light.

Centrally located boutique hotel within the walls of the lovely city of Evora. Set in a historic palace with a modern extension; spacious and well-decorated guestrooms kept in white and brown. Our room on the ground floor also included a private terrace with direct view to the 16th century archiduct and the swimmingpool. Nice restaurant in the basement of the historic part of the premises, but you can also sit on the pool terrace. Very good breakfast selection, and the food in the restaurant was also lovely. Nice and friendly staff, especially in the bar (good cocktails!).
Your perfect place to stay a couple of days when visiting Evora and the Alentejo!

Room Tip: Ground floor.

There is no denying that this is a beautiful property. When you first walk into the lobby and look across the landscaped grounds to the amazing aqueduct, it truly takes your breath away. Our room was large, clean and comfortable. The whole issue with the coffee machine being out in hallway has been mentioned in other reviews (it does make the hotel seem cheap or miserly), but we had the added issue of the coffee machine being right outside our door. We were treated to the sound of grinding coffee at all hours of the day and night (mostly early in the morning).
But, the reason we can only give the M'Ar De Ar Aqueduto 3 stars (and we were seriously tempted to give it only 2) is because of the staff. Without a doubt, the staff at this hotel were the most unpleasant of any we met during our 6 weeks in Spain and Portugal. The men and women at the reception desk were cold, unpleasant and officious. We have never stayed at a hotel where, when you walk in or out of the front door, the reception people don't at least look up and acknowledge you. This never happened at this hotel, not one time. The woman tending the breakfast room stood in the middle of the dining room and vaguely pointed to where the food was. No pleasantries or any interaction at all. The housekeeping staff who, we've found, are usually the most pleasant and fun people at the hotel, were unsmiling and never even made eye contact (another issue with housekeeping is our room was not being cleaned until between 4:30 and 5:00 pm). The one exception to this was a wonderful gentleman named Rui. He helped us on check-in, going down into the garage to get our car squared away, taking care of our luggage, and he always had a smile and hello for us whenever we saw him. He was a shining star.
During our wanderings around Evora we happened to come across the Pousada hotel. We had stayed at the Pousada in Tavira a few days earlier and wanted to take a peek at this hotel. When we walked into the lobby, we were greeted like old friends. When we asked for permission to look around, we were told to "Please, go wherever you like". As we left, we got smiles and goodbyes from both gentlemen at the reception desk. We were treated better by strangers than we were by the staff at the hotel we were spending a lot of money at. We definitely won't be back.

It’s a nice enough hotel, with stunning views of the Roman aqueduct, and a great swimming pool. Friendly staff, clean modern rooms, and very satisfactory breakfast.

On the other hand, there are problems. They may or may not be important for you. The biggest problem is Internet connectivity. When the hotel is relatively empty, as it was our first night there, connectivity is fine. But the second night, after a busload of tourists filled the place, connectivity was extremely unsteady: We were getting disconnected every 10 minutes. A few minutes later you could get back on, only to be disconnected again a few minutes after that. VERY frustrating!

Another issue is the fake thermostat in the room: You can set it anywhere from 5C to 30C, and it doesn’t make a bit of difference. Sometimes the room is comfortable, sometimes it isn’t. This isn’t terribly unusual in “ordinary” hotels, but five-star hotels are not supposed to be ordinary.
