We spent a long weekend and the Old Milking Parlour as part of a larger family group taking up other properties on the holiday village.
The property is easy to find and only a short hop off the motorway - but you'd never know it while you were there. The owners have obviously invested a considerable sum in restoring all of these properties to a very high standard and it shows from the moment you arrive. There are four bedrooms downstairs, then two more upstairs and a spacious living area. the bedrooms are on the smaller side but comfortable and well furnished - comfortable mattresses and the en suite shower rooms worked well - and with the heat of the weekend, it was easier to keep the downstairs bedrooms cool!
The living area had a massive dining room table with benches, two large couches, Sky TV (with Sky Sports), bluetooth speakers (very handy, thank you!) and a large kitchen with all mod cons including large fridge freezer. There's no shop in walking distance but a large superstore is only a couple of miles away by road and is available 24 hours to get supplies as needed.
The grounds are available with play areas, football pitches, barbecue area and animal orchard and our wider family made use of them all. Vic was very entertaining and seemed to care that we were all enjoying our stay when we spoke to him - and under his "Farmer Vic" guise, was a great guide to the children going to collect eggs from the chickens.
Only two minor gripes to mention. The first one was simply the heat while we were there. This is nothing the owners can deal with, obviously, but the ability to open the windows a little wider, or a portable air conditioner unit would have been great. Air coolers were provided but they didn't assist much and spent most of their time beeping at us when they were switched on, (with windows closed as per instructions) so we just left them off. The properties are all designed for cooler conditions (ie, normal British weather) and with the living areas upstairs taking advantage of the heat rising, it could be quite uncomfortable. Again, this was during the hottest weekend so far in 2017 - so out of the ordinary. (As an aside, the basement apartment elsewhere in the holiday village was lovely and cool, we're going to try and bag that one next time! :) )
My only other gripe was the additional charge of £150 per property for use of the hot tubs. This seems quite expensive to me, especially considering the amount already invested in the property for a weekend rental.
But these are only two small issues in what otherwise was a flawless stay. Was great that there was a place that could accommodate so many people comfortably. The wider holiday village itself has had a lot of thought put into the design. We truly enjoyed every moment there and we're already talking about returning next year. Highly recommended!
We recently stayed here (9 adults and 2 children) to celebrate my Dad's 70th birthday. From the initial enquiry, Rachel was extremely helpful and professional. The property is well equipped with everything you could need and the onsite facilities were brilliant, especially for the children. Vic was always on hand and even personally delivered a dozen freshly laid eggs. I would highly recommend the property and holiday village!
We can here as a hen party. The building is beautiful and very well done out. The bedroom was smallish but more then enough room for a weekend trip. We were in the larger barn with a total of 21 staying. The living space was prefect for this. It was very well equipped with lots of glasses, plates cutlery etc. But no milk jug! I would come back on another large group booking as the place is ideal and always ready mentioned beautiful. A couple of downside is that it is very close to a train track and it is has no hot tub for our accommodation.
The Old Milking Parlour is part of a developing complex of barn conversions. Booking was easy. The price was good. Fairly newly opened, it is immaculate inside, with 6 double bedrooms, 2 of which are en-suite.
The location is peaceful and beautiful. The sitting room/kitchen is upstairs, so you get the best of the outlook. Great walking and pubs nearby. Beds are comfy and everything is in very good condition.
We filled the place almost to the brim, with 10 adults and 1 child. Unfortunately, for our group the venue wasn't great. We found the building's internal sound insulation insufficient. When one group decided to go to bed, they were kept awake by the others. And vice-verse in the morning. The larger en-suite rooms are directly below the lounge and kitchen too, so this made it worse. Pumps from running water was also a disturbance for us.
We also found the rooms only just large enough. The living area of the kitchen didn't have sofas for us all. Some remained at the dining table. I personally feel that less rooms and more living space would have been a better use of the building.
If you are a smaller group, who all go to bed at the same time then you will find it peaceful and gorgeous. Our group, sadly, didn't enjoy the stay as much as we should.
The Old Milking Parlour and the team behind it were excellent. The service throughout my booking and stay was second to none. Speedy & helpful responses and the quality of accommodation was excellent. I would highly recommend this venue and commend their commitment to customer service.
