“This property is far, far more than an apartment in Ypres, it's an experience!”
Reviewed 15 March 2015 for a stay in March 2015

If you want a truly unique experience of Ypres, then this is the place for you. The accommodation is first class, and the attention and guidance from the owner is second to none. The owner is closely associated with the Menin Gate and he can fill you in with far more information and tips than any guide book can give you. The apartment really does overlook the Menin Gate and there is no property closer with a better view. You can lie in bed and look at the wonderful vista. The house lives and breathes the Menin Gate and World War 1. If it's available, don't hesitate, book it!!

“The only place to stay when experiencing Ypres WW1 history.”
Reviewed 19 February 2015 for a stay in February 2015

Our primary reason for visiting Ypres, like many people, was to spend time experiencing the WW1 history of the area. To find accommodation that added to that overall experience was an an absolute bonus. From its unbeatable location, stylish fit out, historical items placed throughout the apartment to its wonderful owner, Menin Gate House provided us an unforgettable 5 days in this fascinating town.

Finding the property couldn't be easier and its location mere metres from the Menin Gate made experiencing the Last Post Ceremony pure simplicity. On that note the owner Benoit, is not just an exceptional host, but an endless source of knowledge on the history of the area. Each evening he would escort us to the Ceremony and made us feel so welcome and special. I can't thank him enough for being so wonderfully helpful and including us in the nightly Ceremony.

The apartment itself is incredibly spacious, being set out over two levels and has been finished to a very high standard. The ground floor is made up of a lounge room, dining room and a very well fitted out kitchen. Up the stairs you will find two large bedrooms with ensuite and outstanding views from the front room. Adding to this is a courtyard accessed from the kitchen that would be the perfect spot to relax in the warmer months. All rooms are serviced by central heating, with wifi throughout and an extensive range of tv channels.

Parking was available on the street directly outside the property and a parking permit is supplied allowing you to comply with local parking regulations. Another bonus of the location is that if you are visiting the nearby WW1 sites you have direct access to the main roads that lead to them making driving a simple and stress free proposition. The brilliant In Flanders Fields Museum and Town Square with its excellent shops and cafes is a mere 5 minute walk from the front door. Large supermarkets are also a short walk away.

During our recent 6 week trip we were fortunate to stay at many impressive properties, but I can say with complete certainty that the memories of our time at the Menin Gate House 'Churchill Apartment' will be the ones that stay with us the longest. Congratulations to Benoit for providing an exceptional experience for us during our time at his wonderful property. We will most certainly return and would not hesitate in recommending the Menin Gate House to fellow travellers, particularly if they have an interest in the local history.

“Home From Home”
Reviewed 16 February 2015 for a stay in January 2015

Back again to by far the best place we've stayed at in Ypres. Clean, beautifully decorated with a location which gives you the best view of the Menin Gate.

Benoit is charming and attentive with nothing too much trouble. There is plenty of World War One memorabilia on show, and Benoit has a wealth of knowledge about the subject and how it affected Ypres, in particular.

The apartment is well stocked with crockery, utensils and white goods. The bedrooms are well furnished and cosy, with en-suite facilities being a particular treat. You can't fail to have a comfortable time here.

Definitely wouldn't stay anywhere else in Ypres (unless it's in Meningate House 2, next door!)

“Fantastic Stay would highly recommend if you want to stay somewhere central!”
Reviewed 30 January 2015 for a stay in January 2015

Third time we have stayed here and have never been disappointed, the owners most helpful and nothing is too much trouble.

The accommodation is to a high standard and you are encouraged to make yourself at home and we certainly do. Kitchen is very well equipped for self catering and the dishwasher is a great addition.

Slight problem with the central heating but the owner was out within 30 mins to put this right and it was something we had done incorrectly.

The owner also has fantastic historical knowledge so if your travelling for WW1 experience he can direct and put you in touch with anyone that can help you achieve this.

Look forward to staying there later this year.
