Menin Gate House 2 is not only ideally located for visiting all the places of interest in leper, it is a hugely spacious and beautifully kept house. It has everything you need for a comfortable stay, and the kitchen is amazing! We absolutely loved all of the books, history and memorabilia of WW1 on display around the house.
The view of Menin Gate from the windows (a stone throw away from house) is wonderful and to be part of the last post ceremony every night at 8pm was very special!
There are bars and restaurants in the square just behind Menin Gate as well as the stunning Cathedral and Flanders museum. There is also a fabulous Spa store a short walk away which has everything and more that you may need including fresh bread and lovely pastries. We also visited a few of the restaurants in the square and were very happy with the quality of the food and for those of you who like fish you must try the Moules Frites they are delicious!
This is a lovely modern conversion of a traditional house in the perfect location for visiting Ieper. Everything is spotlessly clean and fresh and comfortable.
The location, next to the Menin Gate was ideal and a short walk into the centre of town - though we weren't keen on the coaches that parked opposite the house every evening.
We booked the property originally as we wanted somewhere big enough for 5 adults (all family) and this house with 3 double bedrooms sounded ideal. Unfortunately 2 people had to drop out so you can imagine we had lots of space. However, we hadn't really read the information properly and hadn't realised that there was only one bathroom, plus a downstairs loo which didn't have a hand basin. This was fine for our party but I can imagine there would be some queues with a houseful of 6 adults.
The other downside is that our very fit and active 85 year old mother was rather anxious about the steep narrow stairs (which, to be fair, are typical of a town centre property in Ieper)
The house had clearly only recently been decorated, and there were a couple of rooms that were not in use - if the owners turn one of these into another bathroom then it would be close to perfect! But just be aware of those stairs if you have mobility issues.

I cannot recommend Menin Gate House 2 highly enough. Owners Benoit and Isabelle have created a beautiful modern space in an period house, combining sophisticated modernism with exposure of characterful, original features. They could not have made us feel more welcome or looked after. Our group consisted of four adults and two children and we found the accommodation extremely comfortable, very spacious and clean, with a lovely homely atmosphere for us to be together for our short family break.
As a base to visit Ypres and the surrounding area it is superb. Within sight and sound of Menin Gate, we found it perfect for our battlefield tour and was a restful haven in the evenings to reflect on our busy days in museums, trenches and cemeteries. As the house is tastefully filled with WW1 books, memorabilia and mementoes of groups who have visited Ypres, particularly to observe the Last Post, staying here made us feel part of a global community of those with an historical interest and a commitment to remembrance which was very, very special.
