Quite possibly the most fantastic, bizarre place I’ve ever been. Not what I expected, but so much... read more
I read about this experience in a (very) commercial travel app and thought, really, how good can this be? I'm really glad I took the chance.
You really need a live-and-let-live attitude and a modicum sense of humour. Assuming that the participant is possessed of both, it's quite a rewarding experience.
The museum/flea market/art gallery situated in the massive former masonic lodge is - I think (hope!) - tongue in cheek, but the highlight of the evening is the basement bar, with the genial, eccentric host/owner, his delightful companion behind the bar and the gypsy musicians.
Nothing like it in Brugge (or elsewhere for that matter)!

I have been to a lot of places and seen a lot of things in my 34 years in this planet but know I will never forget the night we had here . 10/10 . It’s best to just go and experience it for yourself . Would definitely recommend it to anyone

I had high hopes of a quirky little bar. Wow was I disappointed .
It’s just a strange house with rubbish art and weird stuff . €10 each with a free drink but definitely not worth it. We left without taking the owner up on the free drink. Creepy place with some really strange people. We walked in with a group of young people swearing and another smoking . Not the romantic place you want to go if your in Bruges with your partner. Please save your money and go on the Legends free walking tours instead.

Found this place through trip advisor. It's basically a giant house, which is owned by a vampire (so he claims!). When you arrive, you are greeted by the butler...welcomed in, with the only rule being this: explore the house and go through any door that is open!
It's only open on the weekend, we saw times for a few hours on a Saturday afternoon (but you would need to clarify this) and then 8pm-10pm on Sundays. We went on the Sunday, with the intention of wandering through the house, get a drink at the bar and then leaving. Its 10 euro entry (includes a drink).
This of course did not happen. We paid our 10 euro, wandered around the house in amazement. Room after room of mesmerising art and furniture. Every door we went through brought new delights!
As the evening wore on, more people arrived and they were equally in wonder of this place!
Eventually we ended up at the bar. It's a very old fashioned, speakeasy kinda room. Lit by candles and old wooden furniture.
More and more 'guests' end up here and eventually we had around 30 people or so all enjoying a drink, having a smoke and listening to the eccentric butler talking!
Next thing, a trio of musicians arrive and play for us! The violinist was out of this world, very talented and we were very lucky to have heard him play! There was music, cocktails, singing and even some dancing!
The atmosphere was amazing, nothing like I have ever experienced. We left well after midnight! and things were still going strong.
We were very lucky to have experienced a night like this.
Here is what you do get: 10 euro entry, run of the house and a drink at the end.
The music and song afterwards depends on the night and the length of time it runs for depends on how many people are there and how much they enjoy it. I get the feeling no night will ever be the same!
Tip: Go with an open mind. Love art and just run with the banter. If you take it too seriously or think its a load of rubbish, then it probably will be for you. If you want a fun and very unusual night out, then you will love it!
Very glad we went!

Im all for a speakeasy bar, and usually I welcome most kind of weird. But this bar is on another level. Its basically an old giant home, filled full of art and crap, owned by a strange man who welcomes you at the buzz of a bell. If your offended by slightly racist art (the black statues in chains had me a little shocked), then id suggest you steer clear. Entry is 10 Euro in cash, which gives you a free drink (of their choice). Once you eventually find the bar through all of the rooms and corridors, you will be greeted by a cloud of cigarette smoke, as apparently its legal to smoke in an underground, unventilated bar. It was worth a visit, but safe to say we soon left after one drink.

I don't quite know where to start describing this bar ...
Retsin's Lucifernum was recommended to us by a friend and, after reading some great reviews on Trip Advisor, my boyfriend and I decided to give it a try.
We had seen conflicting information about opening times but was told to visit on a Sunday evening.
We found the bar but a sign outside said only open from 20.00 so we were a little early.
At 20.00 we rung the doorbell and the owner opened up. For 10 Euros you get entrance to look around his house anywhere a door is open and a drink.
The house is impressive; a mixture of art, poetry and much more. We later discovered the art was painted by the owner's brother and the poetry extracts almost all from Edgar Allen Poe.
We then went through to the bar. The bar seemed quiet that night due to a popular football match and the owner said it would depend on numbers whether they would remain open. Some guests stayed for one drink and left but I would encourage you to stick it out. At around 10/10.30 music started.
Our eccentric host sang accompanied by a string trio. Later on a jazz pianist played who was absolutely amazing and some others sang.
We left around midnight but I think the singing would have continued !
The mystery still remains regarding opening times but most definitely from 20.00 on a Sunday. I saw a menu about Friday nights but outside the building on and on Trip Advisor, I haven't seen much about this.
The owner likes people to be fairly smart (he said no sports shoes), so I would encourage you to dress up a little :)
The whole experience was odd but captivating. It is not for everyone so go with an open mind.
