The square is quite busy and full of tourists. There are plenty of resturants, cafes, souvenir shops nearby. The belgian specialities fries, waffel and choclate can be found all around. The carriage rides are running around, so be careful.

Bruges was like any normal day on St Patricks Day, but in the evening it was lit up green to celebrate the Irish Patron Saint. It was magical to see all the people admire the colour scheme and acknowledge the Saint and Ireland. The square was in its usual splendour and is always full of life, even better at Christmas.

Really nice square with very typical buildings. In my opinion better atmosphere than in Markt square. ‎

Adjacent to the Markt square this area contaons the chapel of the holy blood and the site of the old church which was pulled down and sold off to fund war reparations if my memory serves me right.

As we were there on a very cold weekend, the square still had a lot of hustle and bustle. I dread to think what it's like in the summer! But there are plenty of cafes and restaurants around the square, with several popular attractions close by. Also the starting point for a lot of the walks, the city bus tour and the horse carriages. Well worth a visit.
