Owner description: Belgium is famous for its frites—and the Friet Museum gives visitors a chance to sample fried potatoes and various complementary sauces, as well as typical Belgian dishes such as meat balls and beef stew. Digest a bit of learning and history along with your food at this educational spot, housed in a building that dates back to the 14th century.

Surprising enlightening. Providing he history of the potato, famines and how the potato became what it is today, worth visiting for the history alone

The museum itself is pretty lame, the displays are all old and the information is patchy at best. However, the silver lining is the cafe in the basement of the museum. The chips are sooooo good! Everyone has a different opinion on what makes a good chip but in my opinion these ones were great... for under €2 the portion was a decent size and they were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside but not greasy. That said, this is Belgium and you can find good chips all over the place so unless you have a strong burning desire to learn lots of obscure facts about potatoes, this place is probably not a must!

A fun place to visit and you learn so much about potatoes and chips. The restaurant in the basement is really funky and the food is good but not expensive.

I had a day left at the end of my trip with not much to do and - since nearly every meal I'd had during my stay had been served with fries - thought to give this a whirl and find out more. My expectations - got to admit - were low; I thought it would likely be a commercial nonsense aimed at kids with a dumbed-down approach to any story there might be. How wrong could I be? A fascinating history of the humble potato unfolded before me; how chips, frites and other fried potato offerings came into being was explained in colourful detail and the history of chip-making came to life through displays of chopping equipment and frying apparatus. The whole experience is finished off with a plate of fries in the basement - absolute joy! The entrance fee is little and there's a joint ticket with Choco-Story available with a small discount. My hotel (and I believe many do this) had given me a wallet for my key card - printed on this was a further discount for this and other museums amounting to 1 Euro a head. Thoroughly recommend.

Last minute visit to the Friet museum. 8 euros per person to get in with a discount voucher for fries at the end

A walk around tour showing the historic of potato and fries. At the end is a small cafe where you can have a lite bite.

It took around 20mins or so to walk around, information was good you can combine this with a visit to the chocolate factory and save a few euros.
