Visited leuven for a short break, had read about this place and decided to visit how could you not? there are so many bars and restaurants to visit but this place kept drawing us back. Very cosy bar with a sense of quirkiness to it,just looking around your spot something different each time. Now for the real reason why you would visit,an exceptional huge list of Belgian beers and mostly stocked your choice:-) wonderful to have them served in the correct choice of glass too.The owners were very friendly along with the staff ,if your visiting leuven this place should definitely be on your list.

It's deceptively easy to miss the place - but you might notice the fairly grim looking stuffed animals in the windows as you walk past. Don't let the rictus grin of the of the deceased fox and his pals put you off. Go in.
The bar serves hundreds of Belgian beers. They're all nicely chilled come in their own, special glass. The owners are super-friendly and clearly have a passion for their trade.
Very little outdoor seating - but two floors indoors. Atmospheric and lively - but not in the same way as the bar-crawl Oud-Markte zone. Warm and welcoming on a winter's night, cool and calm on a summer afternoon - I could happily spend all day - and a lot of money working my way through the beer menu.

After seeing the beer menu, I barely knew any of the beers. Asking the friendly tender for some advice resulted in a great evening. Drinking some new beers and eating some salami/cheese made our stay in Leuven worthwile

The Capital may have more beers on their menu, but then many are out of stock. Fiere Margriet recently changed ownership and new owners are doing really great things with this little gem of a bar right in the heart of Leuven. Carefully selected list of great beers (you still have a choice of about 180 beers, so you won't get bored no matter how many times you come here!), with very knowledgeable staff. Owner herself is often behind the bar, all too happy to recommend styles.
Atmosphere takes you back to one of these old-style, full of personality places rather than a modern swanky place. A lot of character in this little bar with a good mix of locals (friendly and knowledgeable locals), who come here for the music or the atmosphere, and spectacular beer, of course.
Overall, a really great experience, and the place to go to in Leuven if you want good beer at decent prices, good conversation, and a relaxed way to waste a couple of hours while delecting your palate.

De Fiere Margriet is not a restaurant but a bar. It is conveniently located in the centre of Leuven, next to the gothic Saint Peter’s church. It takes its name from a famous female figure in Leuven, “Proud Margaret”. Legend has it she was a young girl murdered and thrown in the River Dijle by bandits, her body miraculously floating upstream, back into town. The local population venerated her as a saint and she has her own chapel in the gothic Saint Peter’s church. The legend also inspired a series of paintings that can be seen in the town Museum and a bronze statue to be found at the Dijleterrassen.
The two stuffed foxes in the shop window of De Fiere Margriet are the only survivors from the rich collection of animals that decorated the original café destroyed by fire at the end of 2014. Since then, the place has been refurbished using hunting and religious paraphernalia, cuckoo clocks, framed photographs and a collection of beer signs to mimic an authentic old watering hole. Recently the café passed into the hands of a Dutch couple.
A Belgian friend who emigrated to the UK and I spent some pleasant evening hours in this bar in Leuven, sampling Belgian beers and enjoying the choice of music. As a snack, we ordered a “portie gemengd”, which was an abundant portion of chunks of rather bland cheese and salami. Quantity clearly prevailed over quality. A pity really, Belgium has some really nice cheeses. The bar is very popular, soon there were no empty seats left.

Always crowded in this authentic beer pub. Very extended beer menu, including almost all Trapists. For beer lovers!
