Raamhof was a fantastic place to stay! It’s a block from the Burgstraat tram stop — this line will take you to and from the Sint-Pieter-Gent train station — and around the corner from a small but well-stocked Carrefour market that’s open seven days a week. The 3-bedroom apartment is large and on two levels. There are a lot of windows, which makes the apartment bright, and there’s a view of St. Michael’s church.
The kitchen has a combo oven/microwave, a medium-size refrigerator without a freezer, and a dishwasher (tabs are provided). A large table that seats eight is adjacent.
The living area has three large comfy sofas and a large-screen TV.
There’s a powder room downstairs next to the lower-level bedroom, and a full bathroom with both a tub and an enclosed shower upstairs. There's a section of glass flooring en route to the upstairs bathroom that provides a view of the kitchen area.
The bed is very comfortable and the neighborhood is quiet at night. We slept very well. Each bedroom has closets and there's a large clothes rack downstairs. Slippers are provided to wear in consideration of the downstairs neighbor.
There is a laundry room inside the apartment with both a washer and dryer. Detergent is provided.
The WiFi is high speed and reliable.
There is no parking available at the apartment, but pay parking is available 120 meters away. Between the trams and the train, we didn't feel the need of a car. (There are over 90 trains/day to Bruges!)
The apartment is on the second floor and the stairways leading up to the apartment and inside the apartment are both steep. Access to the building and the apartment is provided through a 6-digit code on keypads. It takes some practice to choreograph entering the code and turning the small round door knobs before the system times out.
Simon, the owner, was a pleasure to deal with. Prior to our trip, he emailed pages of information that included options for transport from the Brussels airport, recommended area groceries and other businesses, including chocolate shops. He outlined how to deal with the garbage and recycling. During our visit, he replied quickly when we emailed him about two battery issues. Simon provided kitchen staples, including EVOO, coffee and filters, sugar, and spices. A selection of Belgian beers were in the fridge when we arrived.
The one recommendation I would make to improve the renters’ experience is to provide quick pictorial guides for the oven/microwave, washer, dryer, and dishwasher. I downloaded these manuals in English online.
Gent is a charming place filled with history. Its people are friendly and helpful and many speak English. During your stay, it's easy to visit Bruges, Brussels, Antwerp, and even a day trip to Amsterdam is possible.
We were a group of 10 friends and we enjoyed our stay at Simon's apartment. It is spacious and extremely comfortable, and Simon was a hospitable host and easy to communicate with. We highly recommend this apartment.
We arrived in Ghent by car and found the apartment with ease. Parking was a breeze located within minutes of the residence. The suite is chic, very comfortable and ideally equipped for a short or long stay. Simon's flat is ideally located adjacent to the old city and the trendy restaurant district. We loved our stay in Ghent!
This location has literally everything you need for a stay with friends or family in Ghent! We stayed at Raamhof for the weekend with 9 girls. Everything - from booking until checkout - went super smoothly! We were very well informed about the location and could not be happier with our stay at Raamhof!
We couldn't fault this excellent apartment in Ghent. It was easy to find, close to a secure car park and situated on a quiet street. On arrival we had no problems getting into the apartment and found a gift for the weary traveller in the fridge!
The teenagers loved the place, it was spacious, the WIFI was excellent (not one murmur of a complaint from all three). Simon replaced the DVD player for them as it wouldn't play UK DVDS and they were more than happy. The central location meant they could go off on their own for a bit and they found a vegetarian takeaway. Happy teenagers who new it was possible! !
Ghent is amazing and we visited Bruge, Antwerp and Flanders during our weeks stay. They even got me on a bike!
Would we go back? YES
Would we stay in Simons apartment? YES
