“Super fresh seafood”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 February 2012

Decided to eat here since it was close to the Delerium Cafe and came with a recommendation from the hotel. The seafood was very fresh - although it stretched our boundaries a bit as almost all of the seafood platter was raw (including the snails). All in all, we enjoyed the experience and spent around 80Euro for an appetizer, a split half platter of seafood, a bottle of wine and some water. The service was very good and included in the price.

“Best Deal on Tourist-trap Street”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 February 2012

There's a part of town just above the Gross Markt that's lined with seafood restaurants. Each restaurant is attended by at least one overly-friendly multi-lingual footman whose job it is to hook customers in for high-price, barely edible food.
And then, at the edge of it, is Scheltema. The crowd is mostly travelers, the menu is pretty cliched, but they know how to cook and the staff is knowledgeable, experienced and friendly.
Some diagnostic dishes (scallops, foie gras) were near-perfect. A subsequent trip netted us mussels that were less than wonderful. There is a nice selection of wine, but if you came to Belgium for the beer, you're going to be disappointed. Prices were fair.

“Traditional bistro food and excellent service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 January 2012

Visited at a weekend in early December. Restaurant was packed (we had booked) and has a very traditional feel to the decor and the menu as well. Service was excellent and the food was outstanding, especially the fish courses. Not by any means the cheapest restaurant, but at about £50 per head no more than we'd pay for similar quality food outside of London. All in all a really wonderful evening and we were not asked for a tip on top of the bill, although we were so pleased with the service we left an extra 5%.

“A memorable meal.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 January 2012

Myself and a group of 9 work colleagues ate here on Thursday 12th January. We had a set menu. I opted for the Lobster Ravoli for Starter and then Guinea Fowl for Mains. Both very delicious. For wine we choose a Ribeaupierre red which was very nice. Great atmosphere and very friendly attentive service. A memorable meal for all the right reasons.
