Description: Brussels' original Irish Pub, the James Joyce first opened its doors in May 1989 and has continued to serve a wide variety of drinks and host numerous customers from across the world since. The James Joyce is a friendly, mostly English-speaking pub where newcomers to Brussels and especially to the EU quarter come to relax, watch their hometeam play sports, make new friends or talk football. The Joyce is the perfect location for your event, and hosts quizzes; parties; meetings; and other gatherings on a weekly basis. If you are interested, please get in touch with your friendly bartender, landlord and staunch Arsenal fan Steve Ray. At the James Joyce, you will make new international friends; enjoy Belgian beers; cheer on your favourite sports teams; and watch coverage of news/events/elections back home. Before you know it, it will feel be your new home from home - wherever you come from!

Really popular with locals and visitors, this is a proper pub with no pretension that's its anything else than what it is - a pub!!!!

There's no fancy kitchen (serving overpriced food to the EU bods on expenses), but what you receive is a super-friendly welcome, a good well-kept pint from a massive selection of world beers, and a proper pub atmosphere.

The weekend I was here, they had all possible sports (including England spanking Italy, again, in the rugby) on a multiple of screens offering the game you wanted to watch.

A lively atmosphere - a real Belgian bar culture crossed with Irish pub banter and every nationality in between hanging out here. A businessman with his colleagues in one corner, and people playing darts in the other.

For you smokers, they have an enclosed room inside where you can watch the televisions showing sport, or read one of their books, or just natter to the friendly locals.

If you're in the EU quarter, pay a visit here. 10/10.

Dog friendly. Stranger friendly. Sky Sports. Pork Scratchings!!!!

V friendly and down-to-earth staff (probably what you expect...).

Good draft and happy hour, show football.

Highly recommended. Don't go opposite the street.

spent a few days in Brussels, to the owner of this pub close your doors and think again. James Joyce would turn in his grave. None of your staff had any interest in serving us they were too busy talking to there friends or on there phones. We went back twice to see had anything changed but it got worst. We were two couples in Brussels from Ireland with money to spend in the pubs and restaurant. Sorry but this place dose not deserve even one star.

Hi there,

Really sorry to hear about your bad experience. The James Joyce prides itself on the friendliness of its staff and we have taken steps to ensure this is, and continues to be, the case in view of your complaint. Next time you're in town, please drop by again for a pint on the house and a guaranteed smile and chat with the bartender!

Kind regards,
James Joyce

This is a good bar with friendly staff (especially Steve the barman) and a happy hour from 1200 to 1900 which is longer than any other bar on the street. Quite an eclectic range of music, a smoking room if you need one and a dart board. Friday and Saturday nights can go on until the small hours.

A good selection of draught beers and friendly staff. The place to go to meet ex-pats but also locals, also a place to watch sport especially football and rugby.
