Found this place one night without even realizing it was right next to Mannekin Pis. We thought we found the coolest little bar in the city. The waiters spoke great English, were friendly and funny, and the atmosphere inside was second to none. Definitely quiet enough to chat, and it seemed like there were plenty of locals there too (we went in January, not peak tourist season). Waiters were also extremely knowledgeable about the beers they had, and gave great recommendations

Situated in a most "touristic" location, the quality of this place is a great surprise. Sitting outside, weather permitting, will keep you busy observing tourists "wowing" at the little statue, while enjoying a great glass of beer. Sitting inside you wonder how all those decorative statues and trinkets are cleaned and dusted! Extremely nicely decorated taverna, well worth a visit. The cheese platters were really wonderful as were the salami/ham ones. Excellent beer selection too. Bravo! A really nice place. Thanks.

Poechenellekelder is one of my must go tavern to visit on any holiday I take to this most eclectic of city's.
This tavern is superb, walking in and it becomes obvious that this is no run of the mill tavern ,puppets, mannequins, vintage advertising enamels and posters, great decor and furnishings, downstairs theres a puppet theatre which is also cool, theres so many interesting items festooned all over this tavern that it's hard to take in but it's a great place to just chill out in, theres also plenty of seating options spread throughout this tavern both inside and outside looking out onto the busy and bustling tourist streets around Poechenellekelder.
We were here on a Saturday afternoon, greeted warmly by a very pleasant member of staff, we luckily managed to get a table were we ordered a beer each,I opted to have a duvel beer while my brother went for a Lindemanns kreik beer, both beers were served in excellent condition and accompanied with a tasty bowl of bar nibbles,we just chilled out and took in the great tavern we were in while sipping our beers.
My duvel beer was outstanding, this is probably my favourite beer, at 8 5% it's a strong robust beer bursting with taste, a beer not to rush but to savour but being in such a great tavern and enjoying such a quality brew why would you want to rush anything.
On this visit I cannot really comment on the meals as we were here only for beers but I have ate here on quite a few occasions over the years and the meals are just superb.
We really enjoyed our beers in here and although our visit was only fleeting as on every other visit to here we had a great time.
Poechenellekelder is easy to locate on Rue Du Chene, it's only 20 metres away from Brussels famous Manneken Pis Statue.
A great tavern ,if your in the area well worth checking out.

Went a couple of times on our 4 day visit and each time, it was a joy. Very characterful indeed. Great choice of beers too. Sunday evening , it was an oasis of calm: perfect to while away an hour with a large bottle of beer to share with friends.

Went here with a group of friends after seeing Mannequin Pis. Nice atmosphere and good beer. Try to avoid on a Saturday afternoon as it gets really packed and you might have to queue for a table.
