First stay at Novotel Suites. Very nice experience. Feel at home in your room, at the reception, during breakfast and in the living room. Attentive and flexible giving you the feeling of coming home. Still a place where you can have private business meetings and family gathering

Excellent location for sight seeing, shopping, restaurants/cafes/ supermarkets and public transportation including the city hop on hop off bus. There is bicycle parking across the street and a car park nearby (passed the new church); the hotel thoughtfully provides discount cards - get them, otherwise it costs 32 euros a day to park. Friendly staff, most of them very helpful and attentive to guest requests/queries - some staff are clearly new and in training (e.g., phoned front desk from my room about housekeeping arrangements, was told to come to front desk if I want a response as the staff was “too busy to talk on the phone”...). They offer free tea/coffee/hot chocolate, fruit and cake (in the afternoons) in the lobby, aka the “living room.” While I appreciate the hip & fun vibe the hotel seems to be going for, it gets a bit too casual at times and interferes with front desk service provision - e.g., during check in, check out. Hotel is on a pedestrianized street and has no direct car access to the door; hotel door is not readily visible from the street - essentially it is an elevator entrance and the check in is at the 3rd floor; rooms facing the old church have a nice city view; room design - while somewhat different than conventional block design (think lots of curves/corners, gauzy curtains as room dividers, and nonessential features that take up space unnecessarily) - is comfortable overall. Hotel is not very large, and the housekeeping crew seems to be a largish group but rooms are not cleaned until late afternoon - heads up if you plan to be in the room in the afternoons. Breakfast gets busy and somewhat loud if there are large groups, but otherwise a quiet hotel. Would recommend it.

Great location, but not accessible by car. You have to walk a bit. Cafes, shopping literally at your doorstep. Trams at your doorstep. Take the number one to the beach. Well worth it. Novotel is experimenting with different formats here. There is no longer a front desk counter but a table where someone checks you in with a cell phone and credit card pos terminal. The lobby has been replaced with a large open space they call "the living room". Free coffee is available here 24/7 as are some fruits and cakes. Good idea, similar to the open office concept which was tried decades ago to help with promoting equality and efficiencies. This then turned into cubicles. The concept here has turned into a large dirty room with greasy tables and chairs. The floors are cleaned regularly but the housekeeper has one rag to wipe the table top and the chairs. As a result both tables and chairs are dirty and greasy. The housekeeper will also ask you to move as they are vacuuming the room or wet wiping. You feel like you are interrupting their daily routine. The daily routine involves hotel staff enjoying a long Sunday brunch type of breakfast in the living room area. Housekeeping staff are also enjoying the free coffee and breakfast at another table. I am all for giving staff the best of everything, but lines of paying guests and staff seem to be blurred here as you have to wait in line for your housekeepers to get their morning coffee. Maybe long breaks are the reason why our room was always late in being serviced (around 3 pm), was hardly clean and poorly restocked with condiments and towels not supplied. The housekeeper even misrepresented or lied about what she was supposed to restock. This can also be viewed as "stealing' from the guest. Guests shouldn't have to negotiate with housekeepers to restock their rooms. Worst housekeeping performance on 17-18 May, 4th floor. Room design was funky but convenient. The hotel also helps out with a car park discount card. Nearly all good here but needs some management fine tuning. Will return...
