I went to Delft as a day trip from Amsterdam. It was a simple 1 hour train trip away, and was simple and easy. We arrived on a market day in mid February. It was just before noon and the church bells were ringing out a beautiful tune. The market was vibrant. We especially enjoyed the hummus and tzatziki sellers where were offering lots of free samples and smiles. Oh, and the organic french fry seller was incredible, too! If you get to choose - go on market day.

Visiting the Delft pottery makers showed us some very beautiful hand made pottery, painting and glazing. The true hand painted pottery is very expensive though, so if you are going to buy, bring along deep pockets.

Lunch was a Greek restaurant on Burgwal street. It wasn't great, so I won't recommend it.

The streets and canals were beautiful, and the town was just the right size to get around for a day trip. I highly recommend this city, it deserves a visit.

We took the train from central station to here. Delft station is undergoing renovation and is a bit like a building site at the moment. It is around 10 mins walk to the square with its churches and various shops. Tourist information was very helpful. It is probably best to avoid going on a sunday as the church was closed which was a pity. We didnt eat here but there were quite a few cafes and sandwich bars around the square. The square is a lovely place for photos. Canals, bridges, bicycles, it really is worth a visit.

We could not find Delft decorations in The Hague so we made a special trip to Delft. There was a wonderful choice on offer in several shops of the genuine handmade decorations. You can buy cheaper tourist ones but the real things are so beautiful and a thing to treasure

Delft has a very walkable downtown. It's a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam, and still enjoy the atmosphere of a canal city. We did not visit any attraction per se, but the market that takes place on Thursdays at the Markt is a sight on its own. You can see pickled herrings prepared fresh right in front of you, at a very good price (4 for 5 euros)! There's also a flower market close by the main square. Overall, it's a great place for a pleasant stroll.

Yes, Delft Markt is the nicest square in Netherlands. Go upstairs on a Tower roof to see unpredictable landscape. Just amazing
