Owner description: Museum Speelklok, the most cheerful museum in the Netherlands! During a visit to the typical Dutch Museum Speelklok, cheerful live music will surround you from centuries-old self-playing musical instruments. The history of these instruments started back in 16th century the Netherlands with the use of church carillons. Over the centuries, the general desire of people to be surrounded by music, led to the invention of all sorts of self-playing musical instruments: musical clocks, musical boxes, orchestrions (self-playing orchestras) and the traditional Dutch street organs. All of these instruments, including the famous street organ named Arabier and the so-called 8th world wonder the Violina, can be admired and heard during the lively museum tour. Thanks to the highly skilled Restoration Workshop, the collection is kept playing and this craft can be passed on from this generation to the next.

The collection of the musical instruments from over centuries is nice to see and listen to. They are functional and great to have a look at them and listen to the music

This museum will surprise you and will leave you with a smile on your face. You'll learn all sorts of neat things that surprise you. It's an experience well worth your time. YOU MUST DO THE GUIDED TOUR (no extra cost). If you intend to also do the "domtoren" (Dom Tower) buy a joint ticket for 16€ instead of 21€.

Interesting museum in the center of Utrecht about all kind of automatic musical instruments. Beautiful big organs, street organs etc. There is also a nice cafe with great coffee and cake.

We thoroughly enjoyed this museum of old dance hall organs, street organs, player pianos and other mechanical musical instruments, clocks etc. Definitely take the guided tour so that you can hear the instruments being played. Our guide was very informative and very entertaining and kind with the children. Definitely worth a visit.

I loved this place. I wish we could have heard more but we were on a children's tour that was given in dutch but our guide did give us a brief english summary at each stop. Loved seeing all the instruments and getting to hear several of them. I was especially pleased to see a Porter music box, made near my hometown. Great for children and adults.
