I have now stayed at the hotel three times and will definitely be back. Staff are really friendly and helpful and the hotel and grounds have character and charm. The rooms are 'OK' but this is made up for but the location and onsite restaurants. You are also right in the middle of things and if you walk out of the back gate, there are plenty of great bars and restaurants

Five good reasons to stay in this Grand Hotel.

1. The inner city of Utrecht is within walking distance, 3' to the first canal belt. Yes it used to be a fortified city.
2. It's the old grandeur and historical site but with a modern architectural Dutch twist
3. The food opportunities in the hotel are great.
4. Charming staff and well equipped rooms
5. the gardens on a sunny day will help you to relax and cool down.

Room tip: Avoid the Latin Quarter, it's an annex building, not reflecting the historical character of the ancient monastery and hospital

This hotel is a real gem, located within easy walking distance of the central station and city centre. The main building is converted from a former monastery and has a lot of character. My only complaint is that there was quite a lot of dust in the cupboards and wardrobes in the room. I was disappointed that we were given rooms in a modern annexe which is accessed across the courtyard. The receptionist told me that rooms in the main building attract a supplement, something which is not made clear when you book. The restaurant is really first rate (although not cheap) and I would recommend the tasting menu. The brasserie (same menu as main restaurant) has an open kitchen and I watched the chefs work hard to deliver around 30 meals to a party in the adjacent room - everything done with finesse and in a timely manner. Highly recommended.

Room tip: Avoid the rooms in the Roman Wing, this is accessed across a courtyard with no protection from the elements

Lovely lobby and restaurants etc. If somewhat expensive. The room I had was small and needed a refurb, lots of other options in the city that are less expensive. It was in an outside building where the leisure centre was also located. Not impressed.

A nice Grand old Hotel in the centre of Utrecht. Lovely property and very classy. We felt the rooms where a little dated, and the Reception did not do the rest of the property justice.

We were here for 2 nights and upgraded to a big room in the main house. They allocated us a huge room but next to the elevator. Didnt notice the noise from it at first, but then the whine and banging from the mechanism become too much and we had to move. So avoid rooms next to the elevator here.

Breakfast was very nice with A la carte options cooked to order, if like me, you dont like buffets.

Room tip: Avoid rooms next to Elevator
