At €70 per night for a single room I wasn't expecting a stylish up market hotel and to be fair most people travelling to Hilversum would only be looking for somewhere to sleep not to languish in their room. My check in was straightforward and my room on the first floor had the basics; a multi channel flat screen tv, a modern well presented bathroom and toilet, and a good size single bed. With my room window facing out onto a residential street I looked forward to a good night's sleep after enjoying a night in Amsterdam which is only 20 minutes away from Hilversum by train.
Unfortunately that was not how it was going to be. A breeze had picked up outside the hotel and while it was not "blawn a hooley" as we would say in Scotland it was enough to make the window frame rattle. I guess I could have complained to reception in the morning but as the young man on reception did not look as if he possessed the power to control the elements, I left the matter to bring it to the owners' attention on Trip Advisor. (Room 15 to save you looking up the register).
Overall it gets a middle of the road mark the hotel needs a major refurbishment (IMHO) and a lot of tlc.More
