I was a little skeptical at the restaurant's claim to be the best in town but that was my prompt to check it out. To start, I had poppadoms with sauces. They were fresh, light and crisp. It would have been great to have spiced onions as an accompaniment but... oh well. For my main course, I had chicken jalfrezi with rice and pashwari naan. The jalfrezi tasted really good, portion size was pretty good. Perhaps, if I were to be picky...it could have been a tad larger. The rice was perfectly cooked. The naan looked different from what I'm used to seeing. It was a little smaller and rounder and appeared to be glazed but....it tasted really delicious. All in all - very good food. Service was prompt, and the owner was very friendly too. Highly Recommended.

We were also not drawn to try and eat at Gandhi for any months but then decided to try it out of the blue and we were not disappointed at all. We have almost been to every Indian in Haarlem, except one and this places surpasses them by miles. Food was excellent and authentic. We absolutely loved it. The dishes were prepared with love, you could tell, and we were looked after well by the staff. Fantastic, would recommend.

Somehow we weren't drawn in earlier, may be due to the not so stylish interior. Lots of plants doesn't make it look an attractive place. But with some discount vouchers we decided to give it a chance.

Our welcome was a brief greeting, after which the owner pointed to the tables on the second level.
Once seated, the interior didn't turn out to be as bad as expected, althoug still not close to be stylish.

We chose a vegetarian mix and lamb kebab as starters. Both fairly ok.
As a main we had butter chicken and chicken dopiaza. Butter chicken was really good, chicken dopiaza was bland though. Indicated on the menu as medium hot, in fact no trace of spiciness. Vegetables as side weren't very tastefull either; some (over)cooked vegetables, in sauce. Cheese naan was nice. Garlic naan could have been great as well, but the raw garlic as put on the bread wasn't really appreciated. As dessert we could choose between coffee / tea, ice cream, or rice pudding.we took ricepudding, which turned out to be ok-ish, not great.
All portions were a bit on the small side.

Staff not really warm and friendly; even a bit grumpy.

All in all, we prefer quite a bit more flavourful and spicy indian food, bigger portions and friendlier staff; therefore we probably won't be back at Gandhi.

Nothing special, service and food ok. Would go again but better options in Haarlem. Prices not too bad, wine a bit pricey for what it was.
