This museum is housed in a nice old building, but inside it is new and pleasant to walk around and spent two hours or so. It has a large collection of paintings, some from older painters from Haarlem, then there are the main paintings of Frans Hals and also plenty of paintings by other painters from the same period. It also has a vast collection of silverware, old pottery and old furniture.
The great thing about the museum, at least when i was there, is that it is almost empty.. at most maybe 20 people in the whole building when i was there, so you can take your time and look at ease without someone looking over your shoulder or jumping in front of you.
Afterwards I also had some pie and coffee in the cafe of the museum... also there it was quiet, i was the only one there!..
If you like the Dutch golden age and you like Frans Hals then it is well worth the travel!.
