A fine choice for brunch or lunch, De Tropen is situated in Amsterdam's ethnography museum. The menu reflects the blend of cultures on view at the museum. A great vibe, friendly young staff and lovely park views.

Located on the Linneausstraat on one side and the Oosterpark on the other side, in the beautiful building that also houses the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT), you can find Cafe de Tropen! When visiting the Museum or just the Building for its great historical aspects, do stop by Cafe de Tropen. The building itself is a monument and an eye-catcher in the East side. The Museum is an ethnographic museum with lots of artefacts and a must-see when in Amsterdam.
When you visit (or an event at) the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) you can just walk through the hallway of the building directly to the restaurant or via the separate entrance on the side of the Building. The restaurant is spacious and has an outside terrace, which faces the Oosterpark and is just lovely in Spring/Summer time. The menu is just like the museum, multicultural and varies from a typical Dutch broodje pindakaas to a Japanese Pokebowl or a Baka Bana. They also have soups, pastries and even a special menu for kids or for bites with drink. Staff is friendly and helpful and glad helps when you have a special diet like my mum.
The Cafe is open every day from 10 AM for Breakfast, lunch and a drink. A tram stops right in front of the door and good to know also is, that the museum is close to the Amsterdam Artis Zoo where also a canal boat stops in Summer time. We had a nice time and will definitely come and visit again.

Last night I came here for a gala dinner.
The room was marvelous! I couldn’t stop looking around.
The dishes were as great as the location.
Absolutely satisfied!

After visiting an event at the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) we could walk through the hallway of the building directly to the restaurant. We're actually more interested in the building self as this place is such a monument. Friendly staff and the food was good.

Following the multi-cultural style of the museum, this cafe offers world dishes.
Two entrances, one from the museum, and a normal one, so you can even visit without visiting the museum,
Good food, good service, enjoyable visit.
