“such a lovely place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 April 2012

We stayed in chilly March, and were made very welcome. The information sent out to us made it easy to find. Its so close to the big museums, and the canals are just a short flying bike ride away. We stayed in a front bedroom and loved it. Really loved it. We had a balcony and eat breakfast in our jumpers, while the trams rattled past. Then jumped back into our lovely comfy big white bed to warm up. Karel gave us good advice and we cooked our own breakfasts with the fresh eggs from his garden. We hired the Bikes and had the time of our lives cycling round the city, its an exciting way to get about. I would recommend this place to anyone, very clean, well placed, very handy for the airport buses. And we came across the farmers market round the back, what lovely food, and experienced our first fresh mint tea.Superb. Only on the last evening did we find the park a few block behind the house. I'd like to bring my lovely back here again.

Room Tip: We liked our room onto the road to watch the city go past, it wasn't too noisy at all, and was v...

After a nine hour flight from Nairobi, Kenya to Amsterdam, I stayed at The Collector B&B in March and I was thoroughly impressed by the cleanliness of the place, the host was very helpful and very courteous. GREAT GUY KAREL is! The Collector B&B is within walking distance of major museums, the tram line is quite close. He provides guests with eggs from his own chickens and nothing ever lacks in the fridge. The free wifi was fast and generally my whole experience was great while staying there.

We stayed at the Collector in October. We communicated with the owner,Karol, several times before arriving and he gave us very good info on the place and which bus to take from the airport which left us a block away.We had an overnight flight from NY and arrived at the inn at 7:00 AM quite exhausted.Even though check in was in the afternoon, Karol graciously had the room ready within an hour and took us to it.The room was facing a garden in the back and was quiet and large by European standards. The Collector is in a more residential and quieter part of Amsterdam but is a few minutes walk from the Van Gogh and RijksMuseums. If you did not feel like walking to the central part of town there were several bus and tram options nearby.Breakfast was self serve. There was a well stocked refrigerator with assorted cheeses, yogurts, eggs, fruits, etc.Karol would always ask if we needed anything and frankly I liked this kind of arrangement.Anytime we needed advice about restaurants or traveling around,Karol was always available. There is also free Wi-Fi which worked very well as we were able to Skype with our daughters back in New York. All in all,we were very happy with our stay here and would definitely recommend it!

Room Tip: The rooms facing the back are quieter than the rooms facing the street

We had a wonderful time staying at the Collector. Karel is a great host - he communicated well before the stay and made sure we had everything we needed during the stay.
He stocks the fridge and cupboards in the guest kitchen and we had more than enough to make our own breakfasts at our leisure. If you are lucky you will get eggs from his own chickens.
The rooms are well-presented and a generous size with balconies.
The location is great - just south of the Museumplein, Vondelpark and the Concertgebouw, and lots of shops and restaurants are just around the corner. On a main road so easy to get to with public transport (bus 197 from the airport) but so quiet in the room at night.
We will definitely be staying again the next time we are in Amsterdam.

The Collector was a nice B&B that wrapped up our journey across four countries throughout Europe. This B&B has excellent rooms, with modern amenities and lovely finishes. The collections throughout the B&B add a lot of character. The location is also excellent, right off the tram line and minutes to the major museums.

Karel, your host at The Collector is definitely focused on making sure you have an enjoyable stay. When we were there another family with a young child was there and Karel made a point to ensure that their baby was not bothering us (they were a wonderful family - no bother at all), but Karel was very conscious about ensuring that our experience was pleasant, since apparently they don't normally have many kids staying there.

The only bit of a drawback for me, I'd say, was the cook your own breakfast concept. I 100% knew what I was in for before we arrived, but at the end of a two week trip where I hadn't had to cook breakfast...I really didn't want to!! However, the eggs fresh from the chickens in the backyard were delicious!
