Myself and my husband came to this hotel for the weekend with our friends. We’ve recently had a lot of life changing stressful things going on recently and we were looking forward to this break very much.

We first arrived at the hotel, lovely receptionist, lovely bar area, nice feel to the place. The guy working took our bags for us to store as our rooms wouldn’t be ready until 3pm, and we’d arrived at 9.30am.

Walked around the city for a while, tired from travelling overnight, and returned to the hotel shortly before 3pm so we could get showered and changed as we’d been up travelling all night, so were feeling a bit gross.

Our friends is room 14 asked us if we had any issues in our room as their lamps weren’t working and the flush in their toilet wasn’t working, nor the TV in their bedroom. We were in room 12, and we didn’t have these issues, however we noticed there was half a bottle of red wine on the side (which we were concerned we’d get charged for as we hadn’t touched it, but we didn’t).

Whilst we were all getting refreshed, we could hear the cleaners banging the doors in the hallway and shouting up and down the stairs to each other - this didn’t bother us too much though as it was 5pm in the day.

However, Saturday morning, the lay in that me and my husband (and our friends next door) were so looking forward to, was abruptly interrupted by the cleaners store cupboard doors banging from 6am as though they were in a wrestling match. We tried to stay in bed and get back to sleep, but this banging and shouting didn’t stop.

I get that cleaners need to work and their days start early, but there was just no regard whatsoever for paying customers being disturbed. I’d suggest using door stops to stick under the doors when getting things in and out of the cupboard instead of just opening them and letting them slam every time something is needed. I’d also suggest trying not to shout to each other up and down stairs if it’s before 8am also.

We eventually gave in (absolutely knackered from being awake all Thursday night for be travel) and got up and showered and upstairs for breakfast at 8am and met our friends who were just as annoyed at us at their early wake up call.

Went out for the day on Saturday, came back and were hoping that Sunday morning we might get another shot of sleep past 6am.

This did not happen. Again, banging, shouting etc. At one point I thought someone was banging on our door so I went to check, but I can only assume a cleaner was hitting something against the shared wall between their store cupboard and our room.

I’m sorry I have written negatively as the hotel is lovely, but we spent a good amount of money on this trip and we wanted a good rest - also why we booked a hotel a little further out from the city centre.

And whilst the hotel was nice and the beds were comfy, the early wakes just ruined the relaxation part of the holiday.

By all means, book this hotel, but don’t book a king room because they’re only in the basement and that’s the cleaners domain it would seem.

Dear Mrs. Laura H,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write us down a review about your stay at our hotel, even though it wasn't what you expected it to be. We always appreciate feedback guests leave us with.

We are very sorry to hear that the issues with the sound have influenced your stay in hotel Roemer, and Amsterdam badly. It is completely understandable that when going away for a nice weekend you want to relax and sleep in.
Our staff is 24 hours a day at your disposal and when it comes to complaints regarding noise, or any other issue, you can always let us know and we'll swiftly take care of it. Calling our reception is of course always possible as well. Of course we know this will not help now anymore and we would really like to apologize.

Our staff has been notified about your review and we are currently working on door stops as well. Thank you for the mention regarding room 14, this was luckily immediately resolved that day.

Despite everything that happened during your stay we still appreciate your kind words regarding our receptionist. But also about the bar, the overall feel of the place and the location.

Thank you again about the honest review. We do hope you are willing to give us a second chance if you ever come back to Amsterdam. You can safely book a king room as well, since they are throughout our whole hotel.
It is also possible to privately contact us via, Reception@HotelRoemer.com .

Once again our sincerest apologies from the whole staff.

With kind regards,

Dominique

1 night stop over for business.

The room itself and bed were fine. However it did look as if the carpet could do with a hoover as there were crumbs both in my room and up the stairs.

The reception team were ok but seemed stretched.

Location is great for central Amsterdam.

Overall I wanted to like this hotel more than I did. For me it didn’t have enough quirkiness for a small hotel or the slickness of a big one.

Dear Daniel B,

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review about your stay in our hotel!

We are very sorry to read that your stay with us wasn't what you expected. We always do our best to make the stay of our guests as good as possible. It is always possible to go to one of our staff members and let them know if your room should be hoovered again, they are always happy to help out when needed.

However we are very happy to hear that the location was to your liking. It is indeed very close to the center of Amsterdam and the museums.

Again our apologies, we do hope that you will give us a second chance to prove we can deliver the service that is expected from us. If we can do anything else please do not hesitate to contact us.

With kind regards,

Camille

Whatever the prior complaints were regarding bed comfort appears corrected! This was the tail end of a 3-country visit and was the most comfortable sleep we had by far! Great bedding, etc. Executive room was roomy, clean (including maintenance in between) and every staff member we met in the 4days + there was extremely helpful, nice and quite upbeat! Location is a very nice neighborhood and close to most major museums.

Room Tip: Executive room was nice and roomy - GREAT tub. I did not see other rooms.

Hi Ferrybell,

Thank you for your recent stay at Hotel Roemer. There's nothing more important than a comfortable bed so we're happy to hear that you enjoyed it. Everyone's opinions can be a little bit different in regards to hotel beds but it would seem in this instance, it's a winner!

In addition, I am really pleased to read that every single staff member you encountered was friendly, approachable and upbeat! High-quality service is non-negotiable for us so it's great that this is apparent in interactions with our staff.

Finally, Hotel Roemer really is located in an excellent neighborhood. Close enough to all of Amsterdam's main attractions, but quiet and has a nice 'local' feel. It's always good to see guests taking advantage of the close proximity! Ferrybell, should you return to Amsterdam, we look forward to welcoming you back to Hotel Roemer.

Kind regards,
Eleanor

Easy to reach from and to the airport (Connexxion's line 397, drop off at Leidseplein). Great location near the museums. The staff was extremely friendly, and our room was ready for us before the official check-in time.
Aside from some noise from an adjacent building (some music) in the early evening that stopped rather quickly, there are no complaints.

Small and comfortable hotel in quiet location but really accessible for transport, museums and shopping. The executive double we booked was comfortable if not a little shabby in places. The shower was in a huge jacuzzi bath (which I didn’t use) but the pipe work could be renewed as it dripped in many places. The marble sink needed some work to bring it back to its original state. Apart from that all good. A big comfortable bed. Room size was adequate and we had the added advantage of a balcony. Air con worked efficiently. Tea and coffee making facilities good. On the whole a great little hotel. The reception team were polite and courteous. Enjoyed our stay.

Dear Tjspain,

Thank you for taking the time to write us down a review about your stay at our hotel, we always appreciate the feedback guests give us!

Our apologies about the pipe work in the jacuzzi bath / shower and the state of the sink. The sinks in our rooms are made of natural stone and with time stain because of water and chips may appear, we are of course working on getting them back to their original state.

We are however very happy to hear that you enjoyed your overall stay, that the room size was up to your expectations and that you were able to enjoy one of our rooms with a balcony overlooking our cozy garden. Thank you for the compliment about our reception staff as well, we always appreciate positive comments about our staff!

If travels ever bring you back to Amsterdam we hope we can welcome you back again at Hotel Roemer!

With kind regards,

Camille
