Although this isn't the least expensive place you could stay, the fact that it is a very easy walk from central station and within walking distance of many sites is a real plus. The staff is so helpful - the Navigators (concierge ) are excellent! I have stayed here 3 times and am always glad I did. Some rooms are noisier than others, so if that is an issue, ask. I did not eat at the hotel so can't offer any info there but there are SO many nearby, excellent restaurants that food availability is not an issue !

Dear Sue W,

Thank you for sharing your review with us. We are delighted to hear that you have a great stay with us time and time again. Our location is indeed a highlight, well connected to the Central Station and public transport links to the rest of the city, as well as being walking distance from ample sights, bars, restaurants and shops. We are especially happy to learn that you got some great tips from our Navigators, they truly are the experts on Amsterdam with so many hidden gem suggestions up their sleeve.

We hope to welcome you back again soon and will tell the Navigator team to have some fresh new suggestions ready!

Best Regards,

The brand name Renaissance is especially famous in the United States and hence we are not surprised to find many American tourists in this 400+ room hotel. In the Netherlands is is also still known as the Sonesta hotel associated with the Sonesta Koepelkerk (Cupola Church), a former Lutheran church dating back to 1671, now used as the conference venue of the Renaissance.

We had a very good stay, not in the least thanks to an upgrade to a nice suite with a separate bedroom and sitting room with sofa bed (see photo's). As Marriott Gold member one receives complimentary lounge access. This is definitely worth it with good snacks being served between 17:30 and 19:30, and alcoholic drinks even until 21:30. And a good breakfast also in the lounge!

Dear Hermes_NL,

Thank you for taking the time to share your fantastic 5-star review with the TripAdvisor community. We are delighted to learn that we exceeded your expectations and that you enjoyed your suite so much. We are indeed very lucky to have the historic Koepelkerk as our own event space, it also provides a stunning, unique and indigenous view from many of our rooms. It is great to learn that you also enjoyed our Club Lounge.

We hope to welcome you back again soon.

Best Regards,
Ralf Vaessen

We were given room 406 and the room was garbage. It was right outside the cleaning staff’s room and just 30-35 feet from the elevators. The cleaning staff were, of course, very noisy with talking, cleaning garbage bins and generally doing their jobs. We asked twice on checking in to be given a quiet room. BUT our room was anything but quiet and we could forget having a nap or rest in the afternoon. The room was not high enough to block out any of the street noise either. To make matters worse, on the second day they booked a group of Middle Eastern young men into the room next door. There were 8-10 men coming and going and singing and generally being very noisy. Forget resting or having any peace and quiet while this racket was going on. I stuffed towel and clothes around the adjoining door to block out some of the racket but it did not help much. Thankfully they left at 10:30 pm for their night out so we could get some sleep. I know this hotel is supposed to be a five star hotel but, from our experience, I would be hard pressed to give it one star. I would have thought that being with Uniworld we would have been given a better room especially since it cost us over $2,000 Canadian for the two nights! Instead we were given one of the, if not the, worst room in the hotel. What a DUMP! This hotel is not recommended. This hotel was a real let us down and was an awful way to end our vacation.

Room tip: Choose another hotel as this is NOT worthe the money.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel 2 nights pre-Rhine river cruise, which was a pre-package option we selected. Honestly, this hotel seems to be the Go-To for river packages as there were many river cruisers teaming about. It's modern, clean and the staff are very courteous and helpful. However, unless you've traveled to Europe before -- be prepared to adjust your expectations in regard to the size of your room. The room itself will most probably much smaller than you may be accustomed to; so just be prepared to navigate your luggage around as best you can. However, the bathroom size was Western standard, good water pressure, hot water and nice toiletries included as well as a powerful blow dryer (located in the closet). Our package also included breakfast, which had absolutely everything on the buffet that one would desire, as well as a cooked to order omelette station; the fresh fruit was amazing, and some of the largest blueberries I have ever seen! We were told time and again how centrally located this hotel was, and we would have to agree that overall it was within walking distance to most of the museums we were interested in touring. We will definitely consider this hotel for any future visit to Amsterdam. Also, if you're looking for really GREAT restaurants away from the hustle and bustle, there are several AMAZING restaurants located about a 10 minute walk on a very QUIET street called Herenstraat (across two canals). Make sure one of the Staff lead you OUT of the hotel and HEADED in the right direction; it is very easy to get confused leaving out of this hotel. We ate at both MAX Amsterdam (Indonesian Rijsttafal), and The Taste of Vietnam. Note that neither restaurant has good "signage" from the street, but we found the local people to be very helpful in helping us find our way. Both of these restaurants are EXCELLENT and I would highly recommend. I highly encourage a reservation for MAX. ENJOY Amsterdam! Such a magical city! We hope to return one day.

Dear SandraPittsburgh_PA,

What a wonderful review of both our hotel and our beautiful city. Thank you so much for taking the time to share this with us and with the TripAdvisor community. You include such helpful tips for future travellers, we are indeed wonderfully located, to arrive at before/after a cruise or from the train station and airport, and to explore the rest of the city from with so many sights, shops, bars and restaurants on our doorstep.

We are pleased to see that you also enjoyed your room, including in room amenities and the spacious bathroom. It is also great to see that you enjoyed the diverse breakfast selection, especially those fantastic blueberries!

We hope to welcome you back again on your next visit to Amsterdam.

I like the renaissance brand. Everyone Ive been to has been hip. The staff was nice. My only hiccup was asking for bottled water. But that's a cultural thing. The dutch aren't fans of bottled water. They had a filter in the concierge lounge. It was kind of a pain taking bottles there to fill up everytime I wanted water. I like just grabbing a bottle and going. But it wasn't a big deal to be honest.

So the hotel is like a 7 minute walk from the train station. It's like a 6 minutes to the red light. And there are tons of shops and cafes nearby. The room was on the smaller side but that's a European thing. I definitely will be back!
