My husband, baby and I spent two nights at the Hoxton Amsterdam late July. We booked a “roomy” with canal view. Upon entering the room we noticed it was very warm, and much smaller than I had expected. There was also a large beam sticking out of the slanted ceiling, which added to the character of the room but was not practical. We tried to stay out of the room for the daytime as it was cooler outside, which is not ideal after flying all night and wanting to relax in a comfortable hotel room. They offered a fan to my husband for the first night.
By the second evening we were really uncomfortable with the heat, Amsterdam was having warmer than usual weather and I know there are limitations to the air conditioning in the old buildings. I went to the front desk and spoke to a man working there who saved our stay from being a very disappointing one. He showed me two different rooms which were much cooler. They were also bigger than the one I originally booked which was a nice gesture. I wish our concern was dealt with in this way the first night, as the air conditioning did not appear to be working as it should have in our first room.
The location of the hotel is excellent and the rooms were very nicely decorated with high end finishes. Staff were overall friendly and willing to help.
I do wish the hotel had a small area for hotel guests only to enjoy as the main lobby seating area was often filled with what appeared to be locals studying/ working on their laptops.
Unfortunately for the price paid and our experience, the Hoxton did not meet our expectations and we would chose to stay elsewhere when returning to Amsterdam.
