Owner description: Rembrandt lived and worked from 1639 to 1658 in this 17th-century house, which today is a museum that pays tribute to the artist's life and career.

Visited Rembrandt house by accident due to queue for the Anne Frank’s house and zero expectation. So we kept walking around town and this turned out to be one of the good museum and slightly less popular.

This place is Rembrandt’s studio and house when he had many pupils with lots of personal collections of Rembrandt used as model as well as kept as his hobby.

Demo on how Rembrandt and his pupils made oil paints was refreshing and educational.

We spent all and all about 2-2.5 hours.
Ticket price was €13pp for adults but free on I Amsterdam City Card

I’m not sure why this museum doesn’t make it on to every must see list. It was so cool to see how Rembrandt lived. They were live demonstrations of etching, print making and even how the paints were mixed and used. The audio guide was nice and was included in the the price of admission.

There is no shortage of amazing museums or art in Amsterdam. Good luck seeing them all. Allow me to try and make sure this is high on your list.

Its a house not a museum. is that enough?

The flow is unlike other museums, its intimate, and transports you to an earlier time, where you make you own pigments of paint. (which they do a live demonstration twice an hour) It also still has sketch stations and stages of his process out for display. As if it was made for the geekiest art fan ever but so relatable to the masses, its wonderful.

this little museum used to be a house Rembrandt lived in, it is nicely conserved with a lot of extra info. His best paintings are of course in the Rijksmuseum, but you get a good insight in the painters world of the 17th century
