What an amazing place to spend an evening in Amsterdam. Have dinner nearby at Bouf or any of the bistros, then walk a block or two to the beautiful concert hall. Tickets can be had at a very reasonable price which makes this a very good option for last-minute entertainment or if you want to bring kids to give them a dose of culture: I paid 18eu, discounted with the Amsterdam City Pass, for same-day tickets to see a production by the Nederlands Philharmonic with a visiting Russian conductor and viola player -- violist? It was a beautiful performance -- would have expected to pay $50+ (or much more) to experience something similar in another large city. And don't worry about dressing up too much -- you'll fit in wearing something smart casual as long as it's not jeans, sneakers and a baseball cap :)
