I have just returned from my first trip to Amsterdam with myself, my partner and another couple. I had a great holiday bar the accommodation. I did not stay in the hotel itself so I do not know what that is like, I stayed in one of the apartments. Firstly the good points, the accommodation is greatly located, we stayed in apartment number 10 and it is only 3 minutes from Dam Square but you're still far away from the rush. It also was good for the price - if you are a group of lads on holiday not concerned about the place you stay, however for two couples which states it sleeps 4+ don't be fooled by this. You enter the accommodation and you have a table & kitchen, then a double bed next to sofa & chairs with a TV for a lounge. The bathroom is well sized and it does include an iron, hairdryer and towels, but not enough towels. Also we only got 1 toilet roll for the entire 4 day stay between 4. The worst part is the second bedroom, it is literally a room that is similar to a prison cell, a bunk bed which fills up the entire room so when you get down you have no space to get down really, and the length of the room is the length of the bunk bed, there is a sink and a light and a concreted in window, so it literally is like a prison cell. And also this bedroom has a glass door so their is no privacy as the double bed in the main part is right next to the door, so for couples this is not how you want to spend your stay. My other faults with this is there was blood on the mattress when we got there, and the window was broken so was wide open all night and was freezing as the heaters aren't very strong and motorbikes and people going past at night are loud, although if you get lucky and get the prison cell you can't hear it! This accommodation would be suited for a group of lads or one couple, not for two couples or even a family. There is an extra single bed right opposite the double bed that pulls out, so this apartment could sleep 5-6 if wanted. Overall my stay here was great in the daytime, when it came to the night and when we slept it was awful. I wouldn't recommend this apartment.

We stayed in the 1st floor apartment with 4 people. The location is superb, on one of the best streets for boutique shops and charming canals. The concierges at the front desk were very polite and helpful and even held our bags after checkout while awaiting our train departure. However, there were two downfalls to this apartment. The first, the bathroom was not well cleaned and the tub grout was full of mold and mildew. The shower curtain also has mildew and very much needs to be replaced. Secondly, the bedroom with the double bed was right on the street and it was nearly impossible to sleep at night due to the noise. We literally had to move the top mattress into the common room so we could get some sleep the second night. Would probably not stay here again, but rather would take a chance at the hotel.

The location of the hotel, and the dedicated toilet for each room of the hotel are the main advantages, because most of the budget hotels in Amsterdam have a shared toilet for multiple rooms.
The breakfast buffet is fair, and the staff was very helpful.

I think the last time this was redecorated was in the 1970s some time. It was clean, but the carpeted wall was a bit weird and the decor had seen better days. Be careful with the stairs leading to the apartment, they are very steep. Otherwise, it was a great location and fairly quiet. The beds were very small, especially the singles in the other room. I barely fit on one, just had a couple of inches to spare.

A 2 minute stroll from the main hotel, these apartments were ideally located in the heart of Amsterdam in one of their traditional buildings, meaning that it is narrow with very steep stairs. We only had one bag and were on the first floor, so it didn't cause us too much trouble, but the handrail is needed. Externally, the building has character and gives you a feel for what it must be like for a local, however, inside the building and rooms are a little basic, but adequate.
For us it ticked the boxes, having a central location, away from the noisier red light district and avoiding the need to box separate rooms for our young adults/kids.
As you open the door off the street, it did smell a little damp, but it was fine elsewhere.
Coming from a semi-rural town in Scotland, we did find the single-glazed windows and frames, and the curtains did little to mute noise from the street, but at least it is a fairly quiet area. However we were still woken up several times each night: I think noise gets caught in the narrow street. We saw it all as part of the experience.
Dam Square is less than a 10 minute walk. Cafes with coffee and croissants, supermarkets and restaurants are all within a few minutes walk.
The kitchen and bathroom were basic but adequate.
The photos show the apartments at their very best. I think they could now do with a little TLC and improved lighting.

Room Tip: Higher may be quieter, but be ready for the steep stairs
