The bridge provides quick access to the center, coming from the Plantage borough. It also supports a tram track. Cross from the Waterlooplein square flea market to Rembrandtplein square and vice versa. Pretty vintage blue lamp posts with gold crowns line the bridge on both sides. Awesome views of the Carré theatre on one side and the Stopera and old town on the other. Great photo opportunity!

This a nice elegant 19th century bridge that crosses the Amstel river.

The Blauwbrug (Blue Bridge) looks even better as the Opera House as the backdrop.

On any holiday to Amsterdam we always make a point of visiting Waterlooplein as there are some absolutely fantastic cafe's and bars here and some interesting sites and the Blauwbrug is one such fantastic site in this area.
Blauwbrug ( The Blue Bridge ) is a superb looking bridge that links Rembrandtplein and Waterlooplein.
Of a night the bridge looks awesome when illuminated and makes for some great photographic opportunities.
We have crossed this bridge on numerous occasions over the many years we have been going to Amsterdam ,it's a great looking bridge and one I highly recommend you visit.
Easy to find ,just head to Rembrandtplein or Waterlooplein.

After visiting the statues of Rembrandtplein, I proceeded with my walk. Seeing this beautiful bridge, I crossed it to admire its beauty and explore other areas around it.

This bridge is bigger and wider than those located along the historic city center. It crosses or connects to the neighborhood on the other side of the river.

Tips: Visit other attractions located near it such as the Dutch National.Opera and Ballet, the public market, and the old church. Take pictures of this beautiful attractions.

This bridge replaced the previous wooden bridge which had also been blue, therefore this bridge was also painted blue. It looks like a light blue/grey colour due to fading, but if you take a boat tour you will see it is light blue.

The original bridge was from the 17th century and replaced in the late 19th century.
The current bridge has three arches allowing boats to float underneath it, however often when the water level is high you will be asked to duck your head as you pass through, which is quite exciting.

The bridge has lovely old lamp posts while the bridge base has a nautical theme with ship related memorabilia you can really only see when on a boat tour (see pic). It is very well known.
