We stopped off to see the Village on our way to Clarens and we were happy that we decided to do so. My wife and I had our own personal guided tour which was very interesting and informative. Well worth doing if you'd like to learn more about South Africa's rich culture and history.
Whilst my husband and I were driving through Golden Gate we decided to stop at the village. It was our first time and there were plenty of people. We had left our cash in the car but the receptionist told us not to worry as the tour had just started and we could jump in with them and pay after. She took us to where the tour was and after seeing it was well on its way she asked us to stop and wait so she could get us someone to assist. Shortly after a gentleman, named Jack, came to give us our own private tour!
The guide was friendly and informative, explaining in depth all the cultural aspects of the village and answering any questions we had. He really went over and above in accommodating us.
It was an amazing experience and after the tour we went to quickly grab some cash, pay for the tour, and paid a visit to the traditional healer. This was a first for us, but what an experience, the accuracy was unbelievable.
The whole experience was wonderful and I’d definitely recommend it.
Dont even bother. This place should be removed.
After driving through the golden gate we took the effort to go back and up to the "village"... All we we were met with was a dodgy deserted complex without a soul in sight.
Another great example of failed use of government funds.
learned a lot about the Basotho people and their way of life thanks to the guide who was easy going, and answered all the questions
Honestly, this place is a bit of a joke. We understand the reason why this place exists and maintained. However the staff is rollplaying which does not have the desired effect. Even stronger, the rollplaying destructs from the real purpose and meaning of this museum.
Stopped in to see. Missed the tour times.
Souvenir shop is virtually empty and over priced.
No place to even get refreshments.
Walk around with the blaring noise of music from visitors I the chalets I assumed. Then my girlfriend and I were subjected to a gentleman that was as intoxicated as the rest unzipping his pants and urinating in front of us on the common walkway.
